I know this isn't Earth Shattering news and many people already felt that way/knew but if you follow the Rangers it's pretty much official now with the ship sailing on him being anything in the NHL.

Many Ranger fans, myself included, still had a glimmer of hope for him coming into the year.

His only contribution on the year was a backdoor tap-in goal from Panarin. He's been either invisible or noticeably bad other than that. In fact, pretty much all of his NHL goals outside of a couple of highlight reel goals where he dangled, were all back door taps or cleanig up garbage that someone else created for him.

He has no mind or IQ where to go without the puck to get open. When he has the puck he just kind of skates into traffic and has to get rid of it, no skill or ability to beat defenders or make time and space for himself.

Not only will he not ever be a star, I quesiton if he can even stay in the league as a role player or depth player. It really is mindbending how he could be so hyped and dominant in juniors but so bad as a Pro in the NHL.

No more excuses.

The brightest hope this guy has right now is to (slightly) out score Nail Yakupov over his first 4 seasons.

No more "he just needs more powerplay time".

No more "he just needs different linemates".

It's over. Lafreniere is definitively in the discussion for worst #1ovr pick in NHL history.

Im curious, did you ignore the GP? Regardless, he hasn't been great. I agree. Not sure he is worst of those as he brings more than, for example, Nail did when not having the puck.

Also when adjusting for GP it seems as though he is better than a few of these "busts" so far.

Lawton's (who?) are almost the same. He won't catch Daigle, his brightest glimmer of hope is maybe (slightly) surpassing Yakupov.

He'll still carve out a decent career but yea he's a disappointment for sure, especially considering the hype behind him. Serious question though. Are the Rangers just bad at identifying talent and developing young players? Kakko isn't exactly lighting the world on fire either and the Kravtsov situation was pretty well known. Not a Rangers fan so I'm not really in the loop but other than Chytil I can't think of a forward prospect that has developed well for them in recent memory.

Lafreniere doesn’t do anything without the puck.

I feel really bad for NYR, crying crocodile tears here.

How about Kubalik for Laf? Kubalik is pending UFA as a complementary goal scorer at $2.5M.

The Sens do this to gain some cap to sign Pinto.

You know you want to.
