Curious how people read Tre here, sounds like Murray is definitely an option to me...

Murray is probably in the mix as the veteran complement currently available to a Woll-Hildeby tandem that's only played so many games at the NHL level. The initial hope is evidently that Woll and Hildeby can hold the fort for these 4-6 weeks.

Big test for Woll. If he wants to be a #1 goalie, he has to be able to handle the workload. I am not gonna lie, I am a little nervous about him. I feel like the chances of him getting hurt over the next 4-6 weeks are pretty high. I hope he can prove me wrong.

Keep Hildeby up and play him a few games. If he struggles you send him down and call up Murray. If he plays well you keep him up. The experience will be worth it but it’s up to him for how long he stays up.

Big test for Woll. If he wants to be a #1 goalie, he has to be able to handle the workload. I am not gonna lie, I am a little nervous about him. I feel like the chances of him getting hurt over the next 4-6 weeks are pretty high. I hope he can prove me wrong.

Can only hope that Woll's injury concerns are a thing of the past. Hildeby may actually be facing the bigger test coming in as the backup with only 3 GP thus far in his admittedly young career. My wish is that they're both up to this challenge. If not, management will have to scour the organization or waiver wire for an additional option.

Gino Reda: Every injury creates an opportunity, that’s what any coach would tell you. An injury two years ago cost one [Toronto] Maple Leaf goaltender his job, but now another injury could swing that door back open again.

Chris Johnston: That would be Matt Murray [where it’s] been 625 days and counting since he made an appearance in the NHL during the regular season.

It’s obviously disappointing news for Anthony Stolarz and the Leafs that Stolarz has a knee injury that’s going to keep him out four-to-six weeks, but the sense is that it’s going to open up an opportunity for Murray to at some point return to the Leafs’ crease.

He missed all of last season after having hip surgery, and he played a couple of games at the very end [of the season] in the AHL. He’s been down in the AHL this year and recently returned, from what was described to me, as a minor injury.

The Leafs want to see him get a few more starts there. He’ll start Friday for the Marlies in Wilkes-Barre. Assuming everything goes well, everything is in place for Murray to get a chance to come back to the NHL after more than a year away.

Sure? But it's not like they'll play a lot regardless. I'd rather test someone that will be here beyond this year and see what we have as opposed to the guy that's coming off major hip surgery and turning 31 by the end of the season. If Hildeby has a couple more rough outings, maybe you give AA a shot if Stolarz is still injured.

IMO, this is not the time to be testing any of Woll, Hildeby or Akhtkyamov beyond what they're capable of. Woll should't see workhorse minutes for a possible 6 week stretch because we are working without a safety net. So you give him his 50-55% start share and don't push his endurance or health.

Hildeby, Akhtkyamov get little in-fill starts as a sneak peak only. You don't rely heavily on them for wins or bailing out the team and hopefully the team is winning so they're working with a positive environment, get a little support, get their feet wet and that's about it. Live to fight another day.

Murray isn't a preferred guy here, but I think you use him in junk relief if it works for his waivers status and roster spots if Woll needs a night off. Maybe you dress one of the rookie goalies and Murray and Murray comes in if it's a lost cause, etc. He's just up to soak up some time.

I don't really like Murray but if you need a stop gap and someone to eat up playing time to reduce wear and tear on Woll and not tax the rookies too much, he's the perfect candidate. He's had a great stretch with the Leafs in the past, and you don't really mind if he gets lit up since you're not protecting his confidence and it make it easier to send him back down...

Should call up AA too, and rotate Hildeby and AA. There's a very real, and decent, chance that Woll gets injured. Best to get both these kids some time with the big club.

Patience and opportunity going hand in hand...

I like the possibilities that our patchwork platoon might provide: Picks or help at the deadline is a win-win situation.

If Murray pans out, I think we maximize there for whatever feeds Mark Leach's Draft Day coffers.

With options of Stolarz, Woll, Murray, Hildeby and AA...It's obvious that we should move at least one for another asset. I'm fine letting the rest recover or cook, whatever, but at some point we have to identify the opportunity in hand as a result of patience already seeded and whatever we get back as the best timed harvest.

You'd prefer Murray to play over Hildeby? The guy that has had major hip surgery and has played a grand total of 10 AHL games in a year and a half, almost 2 years? Alright man. I guess looking at a small sample to start the year should decide it. 3 NHL games for Hildeby and it's over. And we wonder why we can't develop goaltenders.

Might as well sign 3 cups Phil Kessel to play over Grebenkin at this rate.

He's had 3 NHL games. 2 in his first stint, 1 where he was fantastic. Then given a game on a back to back in his second stint and he was more than fine. Younger options with limited experience sometimes need a little longer? Thankfully patience with younger options with our management seem a little better.

Guess the Leafs thought the same way.

Fun facts that would never cross anyone’s mind.

Anthony Stolarz is actually older than Matt Murray by a few months. Both came out of the OHL, London and the Soo respectively. Both were drafted to Pennsylvania based NHL teams in 2012. And Stolarz was actually the higher pick going 45th to Murray’s 83rd. From that point their careers veered off in completely different trajectories before meeting here again on the Toronto Maple Leafs.
