Is easily the worst in the league. How embarrassing is it when an entire line of players falls on one shift? Or how about the 100 passes on the PP that couldn't connect because the puck is bouncing like a yo yo?

Do any of you think that is why the team has a harder time winning at home? I understand both teams play on it, but I've now seen 3 straight games at the Coli that have resembled a chess match. And I attribute that to the horrible, awful, pathetic ice.

I wonder what opposing teams and players say about the NVMC? We need to get to Barclays, and soon, and hopefully with a better ice crew.

I have heard the refrigeration unit needs to be replaced. The price tag for it is upwards of $3 million.

Like you said both teams have to play on it. It's no excuse and it's no secret that the NVMC is dump they just have to play thru it.

Pro hockey players, who play on ice that's in all different conditions all season, certainly should be able to deal with it it.

This is ice is bad in comparison to others, the refrigeration is over 40 years old. But, it's still up to NHL safety standards and if you play on it more than other teams it should be and advantage, not a disadvantage, because you know what to expect. That's the way I see it.

Lets not panic, when you get 0-14 on the power play over the last 2 games that's your reason for losing not the ice.

Keep in mind that a new sheet of ice was put down after the monster trucks were ther on Jan 29-31 so the new sheet is still seasoning.

That being said the ice at the Coliseum has been going downhill for a while. They used to have great ice but as the County, SMG and Wang have let the building deteriorate so has the ice quality.

Let's not be so quick to separate the two. The fact that the Islanders power play was on fire during the road trip and can't BUY a goal at home is cause for concern. Look at the puck movement on the road. That goal Tavares scored in New Jersey on the power play... I haven't seen the Islanders move the puck like that in a long time. Tic... tac... toe... goal. It was a thing of beauty. Power play at home? Extremely slow puck movement... unable to control passes... puck won't sit down flat. The numbers don't lie. This team has been lighting up the scoreboard on the road and can't score for **** at home.

I know both teams have to play on it but the opposing teams haven't been scoring all that much either at the coliseum. Devils scored 2 opening night. Tampa had 3. Devils scored 3 on Sunday but one was an empty net. And the high octane Pens scored 4 and one of those was an empty net. The road games have been much higher scoring and a ton more fun to watch. The only variable is the ice. It's not crazy to think the ice has something to do with it.

To be fair, the deterioration started before Wang ever bought the Islanders.

County owned facility.:help:

I don't blame Wang or the Isles. I blame the cheap, stupid politicians for the ice condition. The County is not going to spend money now that the Isles are leaving for Brooklyn unless their is a machine failure that can't be fixed.

I'm gonna say JT making passes behind the back to opponents, Okposo not going into position smartly, Moulson not playing hockey except when he's in scoring position, Hamonic battling injury and being targeted each game, Reasoner wearing orange, Finley and Hickey being raw, Nielson having to play three zones perfectly and being worn out, Nabby not being able to take a break because Wang's buddy is in a wheelchair waiting, Carkner not having his legs yet, Aucoin's line being AHL good but not NHL good, Streit being awful defensively, no defensemen being reliable on the point stopping pucks and our 5 on 5 being horrid might have something to do with it....but we can blame the ice like the building being why no one wants to play for the team as operated if it helps.;)

Yep. I thought it was common knowledge that the refrigeration unit needed to be replaced. Been that way for a few years.

two of the four condensers do not work. They haven't worked since Turgeon. Before that, I recall hearing NVMC having some of the best ice, rivaling Edmonton's.

For that....you blame the County and ownership for not putting pressure on them - or SMG - to fix it.

Not saying those things aren't true but everything you just said DIDN'T seem to affect them on the road. Maybe it was a lucky 5 game stretch. Who knows.

I never said I was sure or even thought it was a direct cause but it is something to think about when they can't buy a goal at home and yet on the road they look like the 1985 Oilers.

I will concede however that great goaltending from New Jersey and Pittsburgh definitely had an impact the last 2 games.

That's pretty much a nuts and bolts issue. The county owns the building, give the arena manager money to fix or replace the unit.

I look forward to Brooklyn for a few reasons, and this is one of them.

The boys deserve good ice. Give it to them.
