Post-Game Talk: Panthers take out trash, demolish Lightning in 5

Suspension for a perfectly legal hit. I’ve been watching the Panthers since 2023 and never seen such a benign play result in a suspension.

Okay I got the replay now... But I didn't need confirmation of Sarahvalli being the worst insider around here and the league biggest ball-sucker of all-time...

Just proves the point I always make... This guy has ONE insider in the league's office and that's it.

Biggest fraud in the community ! lool

I know I'm not supposed to this but ...

I really love one of our Panthers knocking out the guy who hurt our Captain and threw a hit that was way too hard.

Tells them that there will be repercussions for their actions, we didnt always have guys like that on our team who cared. Nor did we have guys on our team who made other players pay for their actions. I love it. Love me some EK5.

I was about to write just that. Everyone can say whatever they want, but Ek stepped up and avenged the hit on Barky. Message sent. If you wanna play that game, there’s gonna be pushback and retribution. No, we’re not letting it go, and we’re not waiting for next season to respond either. Sorry, not sorry.

Sounds like proper leadership to me.

Same thing should have happpened to Draibitchass last year but I assume the guys knew the stakes were higher on the Cup Final so i get it. Not this time tho.

2 games? Ok

Come on guys, that's a clear head shot. You're not going to get away with elbowing a guy's head on camera, just not gonna happen. Easy suspension.

Really not a fan of cheering for dirty hits like that. These guys are people and it helps no one if hits like that become commonplace. Yes, Draisaitl should have also been suspended too, but at least now there's a precedent for that kind of hit in the playoffs, have to start somewhere.

This is what 2 minutes + $5K fine looks like

I’ll be honest. I have to be.

If Ek makes that hit without Hagel trying to decapitate Barkov first, that’s a dirty f***ing play.

Ek makes that hit after Hagel’s hit, that’s an awesome f***ing play ten times out of ten. I’m sorry he didn’t catch Kuch too on continuation and Cooper on the rebound.

I think they suspended him because of the media outcry campaign, they had to save face. They also want to show that these kinds of hits will be punished, even if there’s no call on the ice. Two games is just game management, so Ekblad is back for Game 7 if Tampa makes it.
They suspended him as the hits keep escalating in the series and because it was a complete missed call in game.

I still support his brand of justice however, Hagel and TB started the cheap shots, so we will finish them.

No, it was an illegal check to the head and Hagel was injured. On top of that, as others have said, the NHL is trying to keep things from escalating too much here. It's a pretty legit suspension, IMO.

All of that said, I still think plastering Hagel for his chickenshit move was the correct call.

I agree it was an illegal hit to the head, but it could’ve just been a one game suspension like Hagel, a $5K fine like Trouba, or nothing at all like Draisaitl. Looks like suspensions are the new goalie interference.

I don't share your optimism that it sets a precedent and that moving forward the DoPS will consistently enforce these.

Imo, he got 1 more game for retaliating after the DoPS suspended Hagel and that's principally what they didn't like. In their mind, Hagel was suspended, so he shouldn't have been retaliated against.

If they don’t want retaliation, then they should give more than 1-2 games suspensions or 5000$ fine for obvious illegal hits.

What Hagel did is worth 10 games suspension IMO. Same for Ekblad.

Players would think twice before making stupid plays if they know that they are risking to miss 10 games or even more.

It was unfortunate Hagels head hit the ice. At the same time, FAFO. Marchand said it last year in Boston after the Bennett hit, he held no ill will and said hed have done the same. This type of play used to happen every playoff game, I get they are trying to protect players but shit happens. If it goes 7, Ekblad should have his head on a swivel and hopefully if the series is extended Hagel can play. Fortunately it wont affect him long term because he already has the IQ of a potato.

Interesting, he pulls his hand towards his own body before contact. Im not sure about this but if your hand is tied to your body while checking it is not elbowing, by rules elbow has to be extended for a penalty.

This is borderline case, and the call on the ice was correct, there is no extension of forearm to be seen.

Dont get me wrong Im more than happy for extra conditioning he gets resting a week.

100% this

you dont f*** with reigning champions selke captain or you will be punished, I love Ekblad!

It's not politically correct. But that ofc doesn't stop the NHL from marketing games with the footage of those "dirty" hits. If those hits were reprehensible then they wouldn't be showcased at all.

In the end it just boils down to the Panthers being a pain in the ass in the playoffs and only few teams can match that. The Panthers are a good team and we should feel bad about it.

It’s not politically correct? But some of these punks that are relatively new here, shit on the site, say whatever they want, and nobody bats an eye. The site went to shit the last few seasons, but it does seem a bit better now, and they’ve cleaned out some of the toxic trash.

I feel terrible that we are good. I so wish we can go back to the years my family spent thousands on season tickets, to watch that shit show from 99-2009.
