Anyone else into gardening ?
Growing up my folks had a little garden, and now that I’ve been a homeowner I’m getting more into it. Mostly vegetables . I seem to have the best luck with potatoes and tomatoes , and everything else - peppers, eggplant, etc is pretty hit or miss.

anyone else ? Any tips ?

We have two raised bed gardens and fertilize them using a prodigious amount of rabbit shit, since we have a Flemish Giant rabbit and this asshole shits like 857 times a day. Rabbit droppings will not burn a garden and can be immediately deposited into the soil, unlike chicken droppings for example.

If you have kids gardening is a must-do if possible.

How long is your growing season? Im near Toronto, so we only get about 4 months. I start my seeds in trays inside, in early May.

My biggest hurdle has been sunlight. My yard doesnt get a ton, so I have to plant accordingly. Things like tomatoes and peppers I give the most light. Herbs and lettuce get the least

Tomatoes and peppers are shameless sunlight whores. If you live in the mid-latitudes (from experience, both can and will burn in the tropics) and are trying to grow them, the rule is no matter how much sunlight you give them, they'll probably want more.

Lettuce is quite the opposite; give it more sun than it needs and it'll go back to seed.

Also for noobs getting started yes you can buy seeds in a pack, but if you really want to see what you're getting, just buy it at the grocery store and save the seeds. Even the ends of a green onion, just plop it back in soil and it will grow

peppers need a ton of light eh? Good to know . I don’t think mine were getting enough. I got a couple of big peppers from the plant , but most of them were pretty under sized .
I’m in Nova Scotia - so the growing season runs from around early to mid June until - mid late September .

haven’t planted lettuce . It’s easy to grow?

Lettuce is really easy to grow. Same with chives, basil, oregano (my fave). You can keep picking them all year to use fresh or dry. And they will come back the next year too.

I'd say maybe 10 years? I've always been around gardens but I really started getting interested when I got my own home. I made bruschetta yesterday with mostly garden items

Garden = bees = bad
My wife & I have a lot of flowers in pots on our back deck. There's a U.S. nickel-sized bumblebee who has busily (like a bee) fed off our flowers the last 3 summers since we moved in, and it has the annoying habit in the mornings of repeatedly banging against our glass door leading to the deck. Now I'm thinking it's been asking for you. :bee:

Bumblebees and honeybees are both cool. Bumblebees are always acting like they're drunk.

Wasps, on the other hand, are terrorists.

Lettuce would be a sure thing in your climate. Peppers and Tomatoes would have to be started indoors and transplanted to the sunniest possible place you've got.

We've got wasps, too, nesting inside our aluminum fence at one of our backyard gates. Both wife & I have been stung this summer, and one got me last summer. I've stocked up on pesticide foam spray & I'm on a seek and destroy mission - one terrorist at a time.

I'm sorry to hear that. Wasps are terrible. They're determined, fiercely territorial and super aggressive.
