It's like when Scott Niedermayer was a UFA and everyone thought he would want to come home...he made his decision based on ANA having his brother Rob. ANA overpaid to get + retain Rob (got him two years before Scott hit UFA).

I live in America, and I'm so f***ing disgusted by what's going on here. Winning this game would mean so f***ing much to me. They treat Canadian sovereignty with such apathy. I thought for a while of just naturalizing here, but at this point, it might be time to move back, even if the economic opportunities are higher in the US than in Canada.
I know this isn't the place for politics but I need to vent. I'm starting to despise the people here.

Basically you are asking why any of us would care that a hockey player that used to be on my team supports the president that wants to annex Canada.

I've literally had to stop reading online comments because of what's been happening in the last month. If we don't win this game I may need to hold off doing so for a year just for the sake of my mental health.

Without making a comment on the political situation I can certainly say however that this is good for the game and it's all I really care about.

Having spent almost 20 years living in various states I can totally relate.
Most of my personal experience living here has been absolutely fantastic, and I'm in a very privileged position when it comes my career and work aspirations so I've been shielded from a lot of negativity.
However, I'm not gonna deny that the last few years have been testing my capacity to stay here in the states. I've never wanted to move back home so badly, and seems like a matter of when, not if.

oof, that’s a door i wish hadn’t been opened for me. he was one of my favourite players of all time.
we uprooted and left after the 2016 election. it wasn’t the only reason, but it gave us the push we needed.
it felt like such a gigantically heavy decision at the time. we had green cards, owned a place, it was the only place our kid had evern known, i had an incredibly stable career that was thrown completely into turmoil for years after. but i’ll never forget when we passed through immigration at YVR and handed them the inventory of our stuff that was arriving separately in a moving van. everyone in the room got up from whatever they were doing and cheered.
apparently, the staff at immigration had been doing this for months for everyone moving back to canada.

I don't believe any member of the Canadian team want their country to become the 51st state. Especially the bubble players like Jarvis and Sanheim. Zero chance they would make the USA Olympic roster.

All the annex Canada/51st State/Governor shit just makes me sick to my stomach. And the fact that their moron President keeps spouting it is vile. That so many of the pundits and media surrounding this game seem way to scared to acknowledge that it was the reason for the anthem booing, and the elevated stakes, is telling, too.
