The McAvoy situation is wild. Hospitalized shoulder infection from injury earlier in the tournament. Bruins mad. No wonder Canucks told Guerin to stuff it. Can't trust him to take care of their players.
Yeah it seems like the needle they used on him causes the infection which is like wtf how?

Yep. Don Sweeney and the Bruins are fuming about the McAvoy situations.

Here they are, fighting for their playoff lives and their best d-man may have had his injury misdiagnosed and is now out for weeks.

Best thing about this tournament for Canuck fans, is that Hughes missed it....and Pettersson and Lankinen escaped unscathed.

But that's the problem with these mid-season tournaments. NHL GM's have their hearts in their mouths, until it's over and their players are safely back in the team dressing-rooms.

Uhhhh yikes?

Healthy or not, you should have done whatever Quinn hughes wanted.

Piss him off when he has to resign in two years is such a bad idea.

And yes, I completely understand It’s logical for him not to go, but you have to think long-term.

Rutherford knows he’s only gonna be around for a couple years.

I would argue that they are thinking long term...in 2 years nobody is going to care about this game. He'll likely have already played in the Winter Olympics next season and nobody will care about this 4 Nations nonsense. Hughes will likely get more "positive feels" from making the playoffs and trying to make a run.

If the smoke around the McAvoy situation is accurate and the Team USA doctors botched things that badly, I don’t blame the Canucks at all for not wanting to send their franchise player into that.

I also don’t want us to piss Quinn off at all, but man. Talk about a lose lose situation.

Vegas loses their top point producing defenseman.
Boston loses their #1 defenseman and sees their playoff hopes dashed.
God knows how both Tkachuk brothers are doing.

It's supposed to be a warm up tournament to the Olympics.

The thing I’ve been scared to say out loud for the last few years is that, regardless of how the Canucks do, Quinn is walking in free agency to New Jersey. I think even if the team were dominating, I just feel like that’s coming.

Stuff like this surely doesn’t help, but I can also appreciate from the Canucks’ perspective if it is indeed true that they kaiboshed Quinn’s involvement. They just watched a similar player get malpracticed into long term injury, and it’s not like Quinn was fully healthy to begin with. They need to protect their assets, too.

Again, it’s just a lose-lose. You let him go and he gets hurt or worse and your season and possibly more is toast. You don’t let him go and he’s upset for not being able to go and maybe holds it against you. Just blah.

Big mistake to create any hurdles for Hughes to join the tourney. He should be playing. Was an original roster player, he wants to play and this is the only thing that will be worth playing for this year for him.

Completely agree with not letting Hughes play. Especially with him already injured as it is. But the other half of me says do whatever you can to make him happy.
I don't think this one game is the deciding factor of whether Hughes stays or goes as a UFA. As big as this game is, I think other factors (like team success, family/friends, which city he likes to live in, travel, etc) will likely weigh more in his decision.

Unless you are Luongo, I don't think any athletes make their decision on which team to play for based on one game.

That said, I also do think the NJ pull will be too much for Quinn to resist in 2 years. Especially considering how tight his family is. Going to be interesting to watch.
