The Flames are 17-4-1 vs the Pacific division rivals

Have to say this is very impressive beating elite clubs in what is arguably the toughest division right now. Anyone else surprised? Flames are beating the best teams in the league and this has to be a very good sign.

If the flames make the playoffs this year, then they are the cinderella team of the year.

I don't think the Pacific has been particularly good this season. Any other season, yes, but it's been a pretty underwhelming season for a lot of teams in the Pacific.

Not to take anything away from the Flames, though. It's been a good season for them, and it's impressive how quickly they've turned things around.

Another way to look at it is the Flames have a pretty abysmal record outside the Pacific.

Everyone predicted the Flames to be dead last in the Pacific at the start of the season. Pretty amazing what some hard work and buying into a system will do for a team.

How is a division that has the 2nd and 4th worst teams with only one team in the top ten in the league, arguably the best?

Arguably the toughest division?

I'd say the Pacific is fairly easily the weakest. No team besides Anaheim would be in the top 3 of any other division in the NHL. In fact the second place team in the Pacific doesn't crack the top 4 in the Central or the Metro and would just be tied with the 4th place team in the Atlantic.

It's nice that Calgary is so good inside their division, but it's not exactly a murderers row of a division. Good for Calgary on taking advantage of it. Certainly they have surpassed virtually everyone's expectations.

HAHAHA wow. So you think the Pacific is worse then either Eastern Division? Not even close bud. The former Stanley Cup Champions are 5 points out of the playoff picture at the moment. I think that shows this division is still pretty tough. Not to mention the Ducks, the best team in the league, are in the Pacific.

I wouldn't call Anaheim the best team in the league.

It is known that the Kings don't exactly try that hard in the regular season.

How would you rank the divisions? IMO the Central is above the rest but I'm not sure after that

Central
Atlantic (?)
Metro (?)
Pacific (?)

As per the Flames, the games that I have watched (which are few) they have looked excellent. The best thing about them IMO is their never-give-up attitude that they play with. They also seem structured and disciplined. I'm curios to see how they fare in the playoffs.

The best team in the league isn't the Anaheim Ducks by any measure of anything.

The fact that the Kings are struggling mightily means the rest of the Pacific is good? How does that make any sense? Maybe the Kings aren't as good?

Judging from top to bottom?

1. Central
2. Atlantic
3. Metro
4. Pacific

Not that it's a great indicator of anything but here's the goal differential by division:

1. Central (+104)
2. Metro (+10)
3. Atlantic (-40)
4. Pacific (-71)

If you take away the worst team from each division

1. Central (+119)
2. Atlantic (+48)
3. Metro (+36)
4. Pacific (-16)

Not that is a huge indicator of anything, but it's just a number I found interesting.

As a fan of a Pacific Division team - yes, it is definitely the weakest this year, and I'm not sure how one can argue otherwise. Edmonton and Arizona are duds, Calgary and Vancouver are better-than-expected but not much else, and LA and SJ are not performing up to expectations.

The Pacific this year is like the Metro last year. One team running away with it, and then a pile of inconsistent teams all bunched together.

Still, 17-5-1 is not nothing.

I'd like to introduce you to Arizona and Edmonton, one team not bunched with the others and the other alarmingly consistent.

 at the Pacific being the toughest division. It is arguably the weakest division this year.

Everyone knows the central is the toughest division.

But fair play to Calgary, they are doing better than I, and probably most people expected them to do.

The Sharks are having a tough year, but have the second longest playoff streak going and everyone knows the Kings are built for the playoffs.

Fun fact, no team from another division knocked a Pacific division team out of the playoffs last year.

What are you talking about? SJ and VAN would easily be in the Top 3 in either division.

Canucks are 15-7-1 vs the East, if they played in the East...do the math

Ummmmm. Going by the standings:

SJ would be
4th in the central
4th in the Atlantic
5th in the Metro

Vancouver the same except they'd be tied in the Atlantic with Boston

I've been very impressed with the Flames and Panthers this season. Two teams I expected to see at the bottom of the standings but they came to battle each and every game (at least the games I've seen this).

Work ethic can get you places in this league if you lack the relative skill but it has to be work-ethic as a group, not individuals.
