Since I’m not a Devils fan please let me go by the way I see it; not trying to step in anybody’s shoes.

-Jack Hughes = Patrick Kane
-Nico Hischier = Jonathan Toews
-Jesper Bratt = Marian Hossa
-Dawson Mercer = Brandon Saad
-Simon Nemec = Duncan Keith
-Dougie Hamilton = Dustin Byfuglien
-Luke Hughes = Brent Seabrook
-Alexander Holtz = Patrick Sharp

Should I go on with Timo Meier who I really think is your Marian Hossa if resigned and Palat to Kris Versteeg? ..but really, I’m just naming your roster in numbers of talent not exactly comparing the similarities between players with player comps.

I basically could have just named the last Devils Dynasty if so and fared the same. But Martin Brodeur blocked that shot.

Agreed that Timo or more Hossa than Bratt. Aside from that - nice sentiment but I think other than saying we have a bucket of talent as did the Hawks - I don't see alignment of many of the comps really although I wish a few of our players had some of the intangibles of those Hawk players... would love to see Dougie dump truck the hits big Buff did lol.

That’s why I wanted to write this now before the playoffs started as they are a different ball game. I do see Hamilton playing similar to Buff but just in today’s Hockey kind of way. Which is where I’m going with all of this anyway. It’s impossible to do player comps now, it’s more about the overall talent of the team. I could have easily dipped into the Devils prospect pool more and found better ones.

I don’t see them like the Penguins at all. More like the Kings if I had to choose another dynasty. The Penguins could barely ever find a winger for Malkin. And Crosby wanted his own in Kunitz and Dupuis. Aka the Penguins left a lot of wins on the table. I think the Devils are far more sound depth wise. Marc Andre Fleury is/was a big part of the 3 out of 4 cups.

The Kane and Toews comparisons work. The others don’t really in my opinion. Hossa is one of the greatest two way wingers of all time. I don’t think we have anyone like him. Sign me up for 3 cups in 6 years though!
I think that happens once you sign Jarry in the offseason. (3 Cups in 10 years)

Don’t worry, once he leaves the Pens he will come into his own and dominate like his scorecard is begging to do.

As for Hossa, if you re-sign Meier, he’s the comparison. Whether it is as good or not, he’s the one who will have filled that role at least.

Appreciate the sentiment but not sure some of the comparisons work - particularly Dougie = Byfuglien.

As someone else said Meier would be more comparable to Hossa.

Think Dougie might be a better fit as Duncan Keith in your comparison.

The one guy New Jersey may be missing is a Niklas Hjalmarsson - maybe John Marino comes closest to filling that role.

Early-season Siegs would be a good comp too

I've been saying this for the longest time - at least two years. I'd fix some of the comparisons though, like Hamilton has far more in common with Campbell than Byfuglien and Siegs is like Hjarlmarsson, Bahl is Seabrook, etc. I don't think we really have a Hossa and the CHI team didn't really have a Bratt or Luke Hughes.

But it's the combination of the deep roster/prospects but also how CHI caught the league stylistically off-guard by being so much faster with their possession game. That's the real similarity.

I can see the Avs comparison with the speed but Pens one is off - teams built on Crosby/Malkin are inherently different to me.

I think a change of scenery combined with youth and speed and he will be better than Crawford (in NJ).

I'm not sure how I feel about him. He could be pretty good somewhere else or he could bottom out.

I'm not sure if he's re-signed in Pittsburgh. I wonder if they go scorched earth with the goalie position and sign this year's Darcy Kuemper type of free agent in goal, though I'm not sure if there is a Kuemper-like UFA goalie this summer, other than Jarry.

I wonder if Buffalo signs him if he goes to UFA? Or they'll trade for Swayman from Buffalo.

UPL isn't any count, neither is Comrie and Anderson is lucky to have still played in the NHL this year and lucky they didn't play him enough for him to be as bad as as he's been the last 5 years before this one.

Hopefully with better morals.

Hopefully they manage the Cap better (or more importantly have better talent evaluation as to not make a Panarin for Saad type trade).
