This still has me baffling, how did Sweden lose two games to Canada by the score of 2-20?

Sweden convincingly won every single game they played except games against Canada including absolute trashing of Finland.

Is Canada style or physicality too much for Swedish juniors ? What happened there?

Sweden played pretty bad in the group stage. In the semis it was close until the third period where Canada turned it up a notch, while Sweden, having no coaching to speak of(well, there was coaching, but geesh), collapsed once down by 2.

Sweden was dominated by Switzerland, Latvia and Belarus if you watched those games u would know. Finland was tired and USA game was just a lucky game. This Swedish age groups are horrible, so nothing suprising they got trashed 2 times by Canada.

Canada was simply too strong for Sweden. Just like Canada was too strong for every team.

The physicality was a real shock and pace on the smaller ice in the first game, that first game Canada ran the Swedes out of the building with their physicality, speed, and skill. The Swedes looked completely shell shocked and unprepared for that pace of play.

It was a distinctly Canadian style of play just a wave after wave attack.

The 2nd game I actually thought the Swedes came out physical in the first period and did a good job. But the 2nd period Canada ratcheted up the intensity but it was still only 2-1 after the 2nd. In the 3rd period Canada completely dominated all aspects of the game scoring 6 goals in that period and outshooting the Swedes 29-3 in the 3rd alone.

Canada just overwhelmed the Swedes it’s as simple as that, the pace on the smaller ice probably played a role. Canada was also a really good team that gelled and battled hard top to bottom.

We typically can’t send our best players to the U-18s because of the CHL playoffs, it’s only at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup that we can send our best-on-best roster for a U-18 tournament. Even this tournament, Canada only had 2 of 3 CHL leagues (WHL and OHL) as the QMJHL was continuing their season and playoffs. Having that said, this was as close to a best-on-best roster that we could send until the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in August which should be fun.

Still, good result for a team that is probably not even TOP50 in the World, and is most likely below Mongolia, which is pretty clear I think.

Latvia was dominating over Sweden, but lost 0-7, probably because Sweden had lots of gingers and got lucky, I think it is pretty clear.

Outlier rosters. The talent discrepancy was noticeable. Canada was stacked with 2 generational talents on top of tons of 1st round projected picks. Sweden didnt impress in the games they won. How they won bronze is a miracle.
Canada is rarely this good, Sweden is rarely this bad.

Oh Canada! Oh Canada!

Dude, losing 2-20 is not normal, even if it is the oh Canada. The fact that Sweden got beaten so badly has nothing to do with the fact you cant bring all your best every year, or you are too fast or too strong. Its quite obviously mostly Sweden was too bad rather than Canada was too good.

you are overreacting. we are behind canada, usa, finland, russia, belarus, latvia, switzerland, germany, czech and slovakia for sure. that would make us 11th in the world which is not too shabby.

go rewatch the latvia game, latvia controlled the game and had more shots on goal.

I am not sure if you’re serious, are you saying Sweden is 11th in the world U18?
