Dermott and Bogosian are the best bottom pairing dmen we have had since before I can remember. They are the perfect combination of competitiveness, skill and toughness. They can keep up with our skilled forwards and play solid defensively. I'm not worried when they're out there with anyone. This is the first time in a LONG time where I've felt comfortable enough to say that. Do you agree?

Agree. I would go even further and say it’s the best 1st, 2nd, and 3rd pair we’ve had in many years. Each pair has been great . Brodie has been extremely impressive and is a great anchor for Reilly. Holls emergence has given us an amazing shut down pairing and the 3 bottom pairing guys have all been solid as well. Think dermotts season is getting overshadowed. He’s been great. Very smart with the puck and great agility and stickhandling. Will be sad when he is taken by Seattle

great post and underrated opinion. Things are noticeable when things go wrong but when things are working well things are quiet. BOGO and Dermott are doing their jobs well!

Bogo has elevated Dermotts game in the same way Muzzin elevated Holls.

Dermott just needs a capable partner. He looks great with anyone who is not dragging him down. Bogosian and Holl have not been dragging him down.

I feel bad for Lehtonen right now, but he is probably happy that the Leafs are winning and knowing that he is always the first guy they turn to when there is an injury or day off needed.

Don't want to upset everyone but we have to make tough decisions come next summer for the league expansion draft. It's going to be hard keeping all of them, but if Bogo re-signs with us next summer it will be the godsend gift for Sandin to step in the league with.

after 10 more games, if the lead for the division is 10+ for the Leafs, would probably be good to start giving guys like Lehtonen and Liljegren more burn. Would be good to get these guys some more experience as things ramp up to the playoffs - I'm unconcerned with the forward depth, but as good as this defensive corps has been, I'm definitely in favour of giving some reps to the substitutes in event of injury

We now have great options moving forward in all positions
Great organization and farm team and thought process
Shanny is the Key to this turnaround right from the logo onward

culturally too, this is going to be a huge win especially if the Leafs win a few rounds.

even if Bogosian, Simmonds ultimately move on after this season, vets are going to view Toronto as a suitable fit to sign min 1-year deals, get ice-time, make notable contributions, win games, and regrow their value. This is a win-win for everybody and makes Dubas' cap management much easier in the years to come

It'll be hard to not resign Bogo. But Lilly needs to be on this team.
I'm a fan of Lilly too, but you have to keep Bogo. Resign him for another 2 years. He isn't even that old! Literally he is the gold standard of a #6. We've been searching for this type of guy for years! I'd have Lilly as the first RD replacement starting this year and moving into next. People get injured. Very often. Lilly will still play a lot and ease into his role.

Here’s a twist, what if Toronto acquires a solid forward that needs protection in the expansion draft and go the 7-3-1 route. Both Holl and Dermott are left exposed and Seattle than chooses Holl. Would it really be terrible? Holl has been great but we do have Liljegren who can step in and hopefully play very well next to a guy like Muzzin.

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Liljegren
Dermott - Bogosian

Lehtonen right now

Negative Nancy Award of this thread.

Way to comment on Dermott and Bogosian.

:snow:

Perhaps Bogosian wants to remain in TOR and Lilly is not good enough to play in the NHL?

We'll never know if we don't give him a chance.

And how am I being negative? By saying we have a young homegrown RD who has a chance to be so good that he actually forces legitimately good players off the team? Wow, what a downer.

Also, I don't know if you're new to discussions, but they have a tendency to evolve.
