Whoelse is moderately happy the boards didn't get zoidberg'd during the update?

for those not in the know many years ago (probably before some of you where born) there was an user/admin/mod? whose name was zoidberg and he nuked the boards and deleted everything. I have a mental picture of Zoidberg nuking the boards then taking off in a canoe on some river in Manitoba and just enjoying his time, not knowing that boards recovered.

Update ain't done yet, its a offline upgrade. The current version of the site we're using will just be swapped for another version after the upgrade is done instead of upgrading the install we're currently using. It takes quite a long time to import a database approaching a hundred gig.

So don't count on it yet lol.

For some reason im oddly at piece with this, I started lurking just after the zoidberg incident and its HF mythology is legendary to me.

It happened in the summer of 2003 (July or August), after the board switched from one vBulletin format (the first one) to another earlier in the year. He was an admin at the time because he wouldn't have had the privileges to delete what he did otherwise.

The board was very different back then. This was pre-Youtube and pre-social media; even Facebook hadn't yet been released to the public. "All your Base are Belong To Us" was only like 2 years old or so and Flash cartoons like Homestar Runner were big. Everyone that was here at the time is now at least in their mid-30's and most are older than that, and many are long, long gone...there are some sordid backstories there and it's best not to go into it here.

Although, we did have classic moments like the infamous bert2nazzy fiasco; Hey @Christina Woloski : I can get a girl like that...a girl who's hot.

I remember all these. The nostalgia is real. Has a 35 year old who was here in high school this hits hard.

There's also the stuff from WAY back like Dustin Rose (someday he will permit NHL teams to draft him after he scares his time machine into letting him return from killing dinosaurs with a stone axe) and Martin Skoula's puck poise, both of which were before my time. Those both started on the pre-vBulletin boards in the late 90's which looked absolutely ghastly. There are still a few people that come from that era that still post here, they probably have a lot of stories to tell.

From what I remember, it originated with a post from a user named "KL" (a guy that eventually was banned countless times) on the very old boards. He said something like Martin Skoula was more poised than Nicklas Lidstrom, and when people rightfully called him out on it (because this was like around the turn of the millenium and Lidstrom was about ready to dominate the Norris Trophy for a while) he backtracked to "puck poise" and one of the grandparents of HF memes was born.
