Might as well have one, unless any thread is cool for tanking ?

Team isn't good. They played well for a bit, but thst might have been the team playing ok and no one taking them seriously.

10 points out of 3rd last, 6 points out of 4th last and last in the East.

No way the other teams catch up.

San Jose is really bad, so there's probably a chance Montreal wins Tuesday.

It's sort of a relief to see how close we still are to a top 5 pick.

I couldn't care less if they start selling now. Offload some expiring guys, draft top 5 again, move heaven and earth to try to obtain a legitimate 2C this summer, move Matheson and bring in a shut down minute eater for the top 4 and we should be in an ok spot to start next season.

Choo choo. We ride again, but we don't even wait for dawn.

Sell Armia, Dvorak, and Savard for tidy profits. If somebody is gonna offer a 1st for Evans you should probably take it.

Surprised this thread is still up, so here is my opinion on the matter since there is no need to sugarcoat it anymore.

This Habs team just ain’t it. Five straight losses, a complete lack of consistency even when we were winning games a couple of weeks ago, and another season heading straight for the golf course. That’s four years in a row without playoffs, and at this point, it’s hard to see when that’s going to change. We have most of our core already playing with the team, I know Demidov is the savior but I just don’t trust he can come and cover all the holes of the ship by himself. Bedard couldn’t. Celibrini can’t. Is Demidov expected to have a bigger impact than them?

Sure, they have young talent, but development alone isn’t enough. The defense is a mess, the secondary offense disappears for long stretches. Injuries haven’t helped, but even at full strength, this team is nowhere near contending. We got opportunistic with the games we came back from a deficit, add to that the Laine+Carrier adrenaline. This was cool while it lasted.

And now, they are back in limbo—too bad to make a real push, but not bad enough to fully tank.

This is just a wasted season. Enjoy your 11th pick.

I completely disagree with you. I’m back on the tank for this season and then I’m done. This team I very close to becoming very good for a while. The latest good stretch was not luck, they outplayed and beat top tier teams but they’re not mature enough and deep enough to be consistent. That’s ok, but the signs we saw this year and this late in the season were never present in previous years. I’d be willing to bet a solid amount that we’re making the playoffs next year. It’s not a wasted season, it’s a solid stepping stone and normal progression of a team that’s been a legit bottom feeder for a while now.

Habs don't have the depth yet to make the playoffs. Since coming back from that epic road stretch, and losing Heineman and now Guhle, the team seems to have deflated. No one can step in and replace their minutes.

I think this is the last year of 'selling' part of the rebuild, and next year they'll be more ready to make a real playoff push, with Demidov and others (maybe Reinbacher, Kapanen, Beck, Engstrom, etc.) coming up.

Resign Evans, Armia if we can get him at a much discounted cap hit, and find a way to get rid of Gallagher and bring in a solid physical vet.
