Out of the last 10 WJCs (2007-2016) what teams were the best by names and by the quality of play (separately by both criteria)?
Finland 2016 by quality of gameplay, and maybe even by names![]()
That is if you base the quality to "who scores the most goals win" -mentality. Yeah the Finns didn't leave anyone hoping in that sense. Otherwise, aside from the 'first' line which was perhaps one of the best if not the best in the history, the rest of the team left a lot of hoping for. In the end, the winners are remembered and it was a memorable tournament no doubt about it.
Brayden Schenn scored more in 2011, than anybody in 2016, but I doubt people nowadays consider him as a big name...
Yeah about that winning part...
Of course, if only Russian team had new Tarasenko - Kuznetsov - Panarin... Schenn wasn't lucky enough, and Finns were.

2008 Team Canada.
Claude Girouux
Brad Marchand
Shawn Matthias
John Tavares
Wayne Simmonds
Steven Stamkos
Brandon Sutter
Kyle Turris
Drew Doughty
PK Subban
Karl Alzner
Luke Schenn
Steve Mason
Jonathan Bernier
By names it's perhaps the best.
The 2008 Canadian team had the best talent in terms of names, no question. In terms of performance, it's very difficult to say. There isn't really a dominant team in that span. 2015 Canada is the only team that didn't lose and didn't need overtime, so probably them.
I don't know. of course I loved the '07-09 Gold Medals, but 2015 was almost as dominant as the '05 team. of course not as stacked, but close. if we could time warp the 2015 Team back to 2005 and add Mackinnon + others, I'd love to see those 2 teams go at it. It would be epic.
The 2005 team would never have needed to hold on for a period against the Russian team like the 2015 team did. If you're talking about giving everyone all of their eligible players, then I would guess that 2010 Canada has the best chance against 2005.
Finland was leading Sweden at the last minute.2012 Sweden was dominant as a team. Most of those player are current NHL'ers, 7/13 forwards and 4/7 D are full time players, others have games too. Maybe not really big names other than Filip Forsberg. They outshot everyone they met clearly.
Yes, but they wouldn't be playing Russia...I'd imagine Canada 2015 would be a better team than 2005 Russia. They wouldn't lose by a score of 6-1.
refresh my memory, who was missing from the 2010 team? Tavares...and?
The 2010 team was missing Tavares, Stamkos (NHL goal leader), Duchene, Kane, O'Reilly, Myers and Del Zotto.
