In on 1st page of the 1st thread. 17/17 tonight, 25 straight overall.

The best I could find was Bozak winning 26 straight in March of 2015! He won his last 10 draws in a game (coincidentally all in the 3rd period), then opened the next game 16/16. That took him all the way to OT, where he lost his opening draw. So exactly 4 periods of 26/26.

Perfect Patrice.

In the most important game of the year, he was dominate. PB37 should be a lock to win the Selke again.

The odds of this happening are incredibly small. Simply amazing. Selke bound for sure. If he gets shafted again rioting should occur.

You know he already has too many Selkes. It's too boring to always give it to the best. :sarcasm:

I hope they were just giving him a rest in the third on the faceoffs.

Ref: "Wow!"
Tampa player: "where did the puck go?"
Bergeron: "you should really try harder"

Not a statistic that is kept too far back historically, but I really hope someone comes up with the record across multiple games.

I was watching the game with my step dad tonight (an admittedly, very "light" hockey fan) and I could not get across to him how amazing it was that he was 17 for 17 on the night and 25 straight, overall.

Just amazing.

So, it's not a record, but it is the most faceoff wins with a perfect record in one game since Curtis Brown went 19 for 19 in October 2001.

I'm trying to find old game logs and there's next to nothing on faceoffs. The NHL.com one said 100% and he was third star despite him doing nothing else so it checks out lol. Interestingly it was the season opener. Stats were pretty poorly kept it looks like, even past 2000.

I looked through the best faceoff games since 07/08 (since that's when you can actually find records of the sequencing of faceoffs) where a player didn't lose a draw in a game and won at least 10 (29 occurrences of that happening, including Bergeron), then I looked at games where a player won at least 15 draws and only lost 1 (12 occurrences). I went through the perfect game ones first, where Helm's 18 was the best mark, then started on the 1-loss games. Admittedly I didn't count exactly after seeing Bozak's if it wasn't going to be close, but Bergeron and Bozak are well ahead of the others.

Another highlight:

- Darren Helm won 18 straight in April of 2014, across a crazy 4-game period. He won his last draw of a game, then went 6/6 next game, 10/10 the game after that, then won his first draw of the next game.

Digging back older than that:

- Dave Scatchard went 19/19 in a January game in 2000, but I cannot find any sequencing of faceoffs in other games surrounding it. I just know that he went 9/22 the game before and 5/13 the game after, so it's probably unlikely he had 25 straight.

- Curtis Brown in 2000 also went 19/19 on the first game of the 2000/01 season. The next game he went 12/23, and on the last game of the 1999/00 season he went 8/15. A bit more likely but who knows.

He's been on automatic pilot at the dot, just a face off winning machine.

And yes he'd better win the Selke.

Mr. Make-Believe

The happy genius of my household
He won 7 straight against Jonathan Toews in that span, even that in itself is a damn good achievement.

Not only that, but the timing of this stretch...

Last game was one where the opponent was playing for their playoff lives. And Bergy dominated not only in this facet, but everywhere on the ice.

My favorite player of all time. I love him.

If my math is correct, he won 46 of his last 52 faceoffs.

A mere 88% or so.

I mean, I realize he gets help from the wingers or defense sometimes, but still. :amazed:

Yep, he was definitely dialed in to end the season. That last game brought him up to 60.1% to end the season, pretty impressive considering the volume of draws. That would put him at 4th all-time for faceoff % in a season for players that took 1,500 or more draws (Bergeron 2014/15 is 3rd, and Brind'Amour has the top 2).

Too bad about the "record" but that streak was still impressive as hell.

Yeah, that's what I don't like about faceoff stats. Technically he's third in percentage, but look how many more he took. Vermette is great, but if I have to pick a guy to take the biggest draw of the year, I'm going with Bergeron.

Although I may also be slightly biased. But that doesn't make me wrong.

Any way to tell what Bergeron's record vs Brindy was?

Bergeron went 4/10 against him in 08/09 and 2/6 against him in 09/10. Only 07/08 and beyond is easy to track individual results, so I'm not sure about 2003/04 to 2006/07. While Bergeron was still really good in those days (2008-2010), he didn't fully hit his "best-in-the-game" stride until 2011/12. Brid'Amour stayed a beast on faceoffs til the very end though.

Yeah, and Brindy had the benefit of experience on him. Some people want to see what prime Gretzky vs prime Crosby would be like.... I'd be entertained watching prime Bergy and Brindy take faceoffs against each other.
