If anyone could post the other lines that would be great! I don’t have an Athletic account.

Are we really going to have no representation at the WJC?
I noticed that to be the case when I read the article yesterday. Lindstrom would have been our best bet.

Melvin Strahl is the closest we got. Waddell went heavy on Canadians in the draft and that’s a tough lineup to crack.

Marelli should hopefully at least get a look for team Canada. Tied for points lead in ohl for defensemen.

Lindstrom would of course be a lock if healthy.

I usually only watch to follow CBJ prospects so definitely disappointing.

  • Dickinson and Bonk and Parekh seem like locks, especially when Dickinson and Bonk already are a pairing in London and have chemistry
  • I think when you get past the top four the team is looking for "best fit" which is likely not just offensive stats. Even Carter Yakemchuk doesn't make this projected cut.
  • The Hockey News also projects Yakemchuk as maybe the #7. Marelli might not even get an invite to camp.
  • On a side note, THN has Evan Gardner as perhaps an invite who doesn't make the cut and Wheeler mentions him in the also-rans.

Ohio native AJ Spellacy is invited to US camp. Drafted by Chicago, he sounds like the kind of kid DW would have been targeting in this past draft.

Carter Yakemchuk not in consideration is wild to me. He was great in NHL pre-season. This is his last year of eligibility too.

Sadly I think most expect him to be a scratch. Here’s to hoping he gets a chance!
Quite possibly (for Pinelli and Strahl) but just the fact he made such a competitive squad is reason to be hopeful. Now we have more reason to watching hoping either of them get into a game.

From Scott Wheeler:

F Luca Pinelli (Columbus Blue Jackets): Pinelli had a good camp. He supported play. He made a couple of plays. He scored a three-on-three goal with a nice mid-net shot. He worked. He had good energy and kept his feet moving. He set up Matthew Wood on the power play to give Canada the 2-1 lead in the third period of the second game. He doesn’t have pedigree or cachet of most of the rest of the roster but Pinelli’s an effective energy player with skill in this setting.

Jarmo is off somewhere telling someone “I finally figure out the secret to drafting is to pick all the Lucas, and then the Jackets fire me.”

I know he got bashed a lot during the last year or so of his tenure, deservedly so but

to jarmo’s credit (and his scout team), he did have some great draft picks during his tenure, some solid 3+ round picks/steals.

The fact that Canada's head coach is also 67's head coach probably helped Pinelli's chances so to me this is not a proof of sharp development curve or a reason to think he's one of our best prospects.

I also find it easy to believe that he's a terrific combative energy player at that level, but there's very few guys making it at that size in the NHL.

His 2015 draft is impressive. Werenski, Cup-winner Kevin Stenlund, Cup-winner Keegan Kolesar, Gavrikov, Nutivaara. He was successful with some Russians. But there were guys who seemed as good finds like Texier and Bemstrom who didn’t pan out. PLD no longer looks like a brilliant pick. It is too early to judge the recent picks. It will be interesting to see how he is viewed in 10 years.

Is Strahl going to start for Sweden? I was at development camp after we picked him and he was massive, however he didn’t really impress me other than his size. Obviously a development camp isn’t a true indictment of who he will be, but his numbers are impressive.

Glad he and pinelli made it. Gives me something to look at other than the top prospects
