If you mean "half the defenseman Walman is" you are probably right. I don't see Johansson as anything more than a bottom pair guy at the NHL level. He is in his D+5 and while he is succeeding at the AHL level, he isn't exactly lighting it on fire either. It's more likely he's back in the SHL in 3 years than holding down a spot on an NHL roster.

In four years our D core will probably be some combination of Seider, Walman, Chiarot, Edvinsson, ASP, Wallinder; Chiarot will be on his way off the roster.
He is routinely brought up as of right now being better and more ready that edvinsson from teammates (mazur specifically). Horcoff said himself that he was the first callup last year if anything happened in detroit but then got the season ending injury, so edvinsson came up. (was on video when he said it).

He has a much higher floor than edvinsson, but Edvinsson has a much higher ceiling. Aljo, if you give him the same opportunity as walman did last year, would be exactly as good as walman is right now, maybe slightly less. Walman has the shot that outdoes aljo, but aljo is much more capable defensively, is much better with the first pass. Being D+5 doesn't mean much when you are talking about him being farmed in SHL and has been on NA ice for a season and a half. He's not a big goal producer, but he is much more stable on defense by not making much mistakes. Walman is great a shot blocking and his windup but he is not as solid on defense as some may believe.

You guys are sleeping on aljo and thats fine. He is more than half as good as walman is right now as we speak. And he hasn't touched the nhl yet.

Yes and while we're passing on fantasies, I'd like the world to know it was me who passed on Scarlett Johansson, not the other way around!
I saw the whole thing. She was talking with a handful of other people, trying to sound important by saying that goaltenders are overrated. Then she saw Bench walking towards her. When their eyes met, she realized he had heard every word. Regret flooded her expression, followed by panic. She began to stammer an apology, but it was too late. He needed just three words.

"Get out. Now."

It's interesting that people don't see AlJo as more than a 3rd pairing defenseman. That's exactly how people looked at Walman 18 months ago.

Sometimes I wonder how effective Walman would be if he wasn't paired with Seider. Probably a bit of a Murphy-Lidstrom effect there where the whole is greater than the parts. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Walman not a part of the core in four years if a better option comes along. And I'm saying that as someone who loves Walman.

So...let me get this straight.

You love walman (which is fine I think he is great too) but you wonder how good he would be without seider. So it sounds like you actually believe that Seider elevates walman to a level that is a bit out of bounds. He has a great partner, so that is why he is great.

And you are saying Aljo would be lucky to be half of walman? Clearly, you just haven't seen Aljo play then....which is perfectly fine, but to say he would be lucky to get to half of walman is a bit absurd if you don't really watch him play, no?

Oh, definitely! I think he does well playing off of Seider.

I don't think Walman will be here at the end of his contract. I think he will be traded, maybe even as before next season's trade deadline. He's going to get paid on his next contract, and I don't think he will be on the top pairing in two years time.

Seemsl ike Hanifin had a few specific teams in mind, all good.

Looking like Stevie not going to do anything here, which is OK I guess. Quesitonable if we make the playoffs with Larkin out for 2 weeks

I'd love a way to get some cap space for next year, honestly. That would be a successful TDL to me.

Why is that ok?

You either buy/sell. Sitting still seems stupid and lazy. (JMO)

If nobody wants our trash (Maatta, Ghost, Holl, Petry, Fabbri, Perron), then what can Yzerman do?
I'm not sure that's as true as you are suggesting.

Doesn't mean he still won't buy or sell. Just saying I don't like the idea of sitting still at all in a league as competitive as this. Guys will be lost for nothing next year if certain moves aren't made.
