I hope Berggren extends and earns a spot in the top 9. I hope Edvinsson and Johansson stay with the organization and become top 4 defensemen and make Walman expendable.

Our TDL additions could just be internal promotions while we ship guys out. I could see Fabbri, Kostin, Holl, Maatta, and Husso or Reimer as expendable. If we get picks or younger players for them while promoting from within, is it a net win?

I really think aljo makes walman expendable. If it isn't this year it's next year.

The expendable guys have no trade value, it would take picks to get rid of Holl, Husso and Kostin. If Stevie can get even a 6th round pick for any of them, that's fine, but I don't want to see him add picks to do cap dumps..... unless he's adding a bigger piece.

Buchnevic, Vatrano, Guentzel, Hanifin, Chychrun all still available and

NYR already made a move for wennberg
Vegas got mantha
Oilers spent a 1st on 2 veteran depth guys Henrique and Carrick
Colorado dumped Ryjo and Bryam and a 1st for Mittlestadt and Walker
Tarasenko
to florida likely takes them out of big names
Tampa doesnt really have the assets that detroit has for Hanifin, but the extension hmmm

I expect Tampa and Boston to be next on the trade block to make moves

Lots of good players out there for us still with big teams already made their moves, but its annoying there arent ANY LEAKS from wings staff

Excuse my ignorance, but how? They lost their top scorer and got a good defensive player back. Who is going to score their goals?

I like Byram a lot better as a player

That’s three lottery pick defenseman on the Sabres. And a ton of young forward capital

I think long term it’s a great move

Byram will be converted to a 50 goal 100 point shutdown D from inhaling 10000% THC extracted from cannabis plants previously only known to prehistoric Sabres...

Getting a remade Sabre from a lab would've been much more impressive.. on offense and defense..

Hopefully none of these guys. We aren't ready to contend and these guys don't change that this year nor will their new contracts if we extend them. Move Holl, if you can get more than a 2nd for Ghost, do it. Set ourselves up for competing 2025-2030. I'd be fine with Parayko at the right price.
I’m all for moving Holl because he’s awful, but why make that Ghost move?

He’s not great either, but goes on streaks of being lethal.

What are we even going to do with another 2nd? We have like a billion prospects

It’s time to start making the playoffs instead of getting picks that have a high unlikelihood of ever making the NHL

Do we want to acquire a retained Buchnevich?

Don't get me wrong, more cap space is better than less but that raises the acquisition cost. I think Id rather land him without retention.
Buchnevich has played center with some success. He could somewhat help alleviate the loss of Larkin until he returns. It's tempting.

Wonder if we could get Buch and Parayko as a package.

I definitely like the idea of adding Buch.

I'm more curious about whether Detroit should pay extra to get him with a reduced cap hit vs taking on his full cap hit.

Depends on how much retention adds to the return.

If they are willing to go up to 50%, then you have to think a 1st and top prospect minimum. 25% retention? you might be able to get rid of the prospect.

^^^this would all be to add to the original deal of buch with no retention. So, to clarify for you all: buch original trade deal + 1st + top prospect for 50%.....etc.

well...get ready because he will be.
If you mean "half the defenseman Walman is" you are probably right. I don't see Johansson as anything more than a bottom pair guy at the NHL level. He is in his D+5 and while he is succeeding at the AHL level, he isn't exactly lighting it on fire either. It's more likely he's back in the SHL in 3 years than holding down a spot on an NHL roster.

In four years our D core will probably be some combination of Seider, Walman, Chiarot, Edvinsson, ASP, Wallinder; Chiarot will be on his way off the roster.
