We have center depth, we don't have center quality. Adding Roslovic doesn't improve the team. Adding Hertl or Lindholm would. We need a 2C better than Compher, Roslovic ain't it.

Are you really posting a goal where he didn't even take a single step as proof that he can skate? Not a single step when he made that move. Nobody here is arguing that Kostin won't go to the hard areas, we know he likes to run over goalies for no reason.

Head to head, McCarty is a better skater by a wide margin. Has nothing to do with era.

It's a good thing you're an engineer because abstract reasoning and hypotheticals completely escape you.

Point to one post of mine where I stated or even implied that Kostin could skate.

The entire point I have made throughout is that ,relative to the eras in which they played, McCarty was the better skater and subsequently the more effective player. Showing Mac skating in the 90s does nothing more or less than support my argument.

Outside of Edvinsson, which kids make the team objectively better? Berggren is good, but he is objectively worse than Kane and Raymond. Are we going to run a top 6 line with two playmaking perimeter wingers? Probably not. He doesn't fill the role he should be playing better than what we already have, which is the reason he is playing for the Griffins and not the Red Wings.

I believe the Wings land somewhere in the top 3rd of the league in terms of oldest.

Yzerman made the choice of supplementing the roster with experienced vets rather than younger plugs until the top prospects are ready to win games at the NHL level. That has brought up the average age.

If you look at the players signed beyond next season though (and assuming Seider and Raymond join that group), they would flip into the bottom third of the league.
