But see, I think there's a big component that people don't really think about --- and that's the return for some of those names.

It's kind of like when people see a salary but they don't take out for taxes, health care, expenses, etc.

So it's not just a matter of moving Strome and Buch and we magically have $6 million to play with. It's a matter of who you get back for them, and in also recognizing that for as eager as some are to move these guys, they'll represent a combined 120 points on this roster.

You don't get 6 mill for next year, we have 9 mill not including those guys to sign 7 players.

You actually think this team can win a stanley cup? Unreal.

You missed the part where I clearly stated it was a dream like scenario.

You need to chill out dude. Go buy a Kreider jersey. You are going to see a lot of him the next 7 years.

this place spun itself up into him going for a 2nd rounder when he's a winger with multiple 8 goal years. Fast isn't *that* big of a deal either way.
Agreed. Strome and Skjei are more attractive, and now that we added a 6.5 cap hit they might be listening more on ADA too.

I don't know about that...with Shesty sidelined, I think Henrik gets his "farewell tour" and retires...this way CK contract slides into that slot.
Kreider's deal is only a 2m raise.

Can be subsidized by not re-signing Fast and moving Smith or Staal or something. Let alone any other hockey trades that come in. Don't need to do anything with Hank necessarily for Kreider's deal.

My real concern with the Kreider deal is now the Rangers are forced to make moves, likely from the depth that's making them formidable right now, and they have to do it while taking back less money than they send out. If you're talking Strome, Buch, and Skjei, how do you replace two top-six forwards who account for over 100 points AND a top-4 LHD while bringing back less money??

Either the Rangers are going all-in on hoping kids take huge steps forward, or we're going to start seeing some of that league-best prospect pool start heading out the door very quickly.

Guys like Staal, Smith, and Hank weighing heavy on the cap. Staal hasn't been complete trash so maybe there's a way to move him.

Smith and a 4th for a 5th
Staal and a 4th for a 7th
HL retires or is bought out
Skjei traded for futures or less $$$
Buch traded once Kravtsov is ready
Strome traded once we find a replacement. He'll be signed for 1-2years.

That Trouba deal looks horrendous now. I like him but at a 6-6.5M cap hit. He's overpaid.

What about ADA? Not everyone else is staying at their current number.

Still don't know why trading B. Smith with a sweetener (prospect or pick(s)) is off the table. I guess his value's tanked that badly.

Funny thing is I don't think this impacts the prospect as much as it impacts the roster guys --- at least for right now.

Because if you're moving your top prospects now, the odds say you're getting a a veteran player who brings term with him. I think the Rangers probably aren't looking to swap low salaries for high ones--- right now at least.

However, they will have to be creative with how they use their current roster players and what types of salaries they bring back.

It's one thing to say, "Yeah, Buch and Strome aren't core players let's move them."

It's another thing to replace 120 points, and have to take back less salary than you shipped out.
