With the draft over, now is the time to get back to ranking our prospects. Because we just drafted the full 7 and plus signed a bunch more prospects, for the first time in 5 years, we'll rank 30 prospects plus "Honorable Mentions" for the 5 who remain in the poll without winning a spot.

Please write who you want added to the poll, and give a reason for it. This makes the discussion here more lively.

THE RULES

WHO IS A PROSPECT: We can't all have different standards based on what we each want personally. We are on the HF board, so let's follow their rules. The standard for what's a prospect is here: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/whatmakesaprospect

* Please don't write that so-and-so should or should not be a prospect. It's not up to each individual here to decide, it's up to the HF rules. Therefore, since no NHL games were played, all the prospects from the winter are still eligible because no NHL games were played

HOW TO RANK PROSPECTS: Based on their value in a hypothetical trade or waiver draft. This takes into consideration a prospect's ceiling, how close he's to making it, his health, work ethic, the whole deal. Imagine there was a prospect waiver draft and you could keep only one prospect. That guy is our #1 prospect. Then imagine we had one more waiver protection. That guy is our #2 prospect.

CATEGORIES: We'll be ranking the top 20 prospects.

- The top 5 will be "Top Prospects"
- The second 5 will be "Second-Tier"
- The third 5 will be "Third-Tier"
- The fourth 5 will be "Projects"
- The fifth 5 will be "Suspects"
- The sixth 5 will be "Long Shots"
- The remaining 5 prospects who made it into the poll, but were not voted into the top-30 will be listed as "Honorable Mentions," their order being determined by how many votes they got in the last round.

The first 6 options in the poll are the top 6 prospects from the winter who haven't graduated.

This is the first time I am doing this when the #1 isn't clear-cut. Skjei probably has the most potential, but has the highest risk. I like McIlrath as a difference-maker because of his unique skill-set. But I went with Miller because he had over a point per game in the AHL as a 20 year old (didn't turn 21 until the last couple of games). I think being this good in the AHL at this age is a very good sign.

Add Duclair because he'd have gotten 60 goals and would've been #2 in scoring in the QMJHL but for his injury. Just a beast of potential in him.

Miller is the most NHL ready and probably a future top-6 center.

Add Duclair. Huge year last year, really looking like a 1st rounder.

I'll take Miller, despite AV's comments he's the best we have.

I feel like Skjei is the most underrated prospect we have. No one really talks about him but I've seen people compare him to McD

Jesus Christ, that's our top 6? We better make good on the next couple of years with a good team because danger is coming.

I voted Miller out out these options. My real #1 is Duclair who to me is the only asset in our system with better than 3rd line/pair upside. He has to at least be an option.

Here are our remaining available prospects. I did not include Kyle Jean, Scott Stajcer or Jason Mission because their contracts expired and they are unlikely to be re-signed. If the Rangers at least qualify them, then I will add them to our prospect list (the deadline for this is before the polling will be over and it's not as if any of them is likely to go in the early rounds).

Chris Kreider and Cam Talbot have graduated.

Allen, Conor
Andersoon, Calle
Bodie, Matt
Bourque, Ryan
Buchnevich, Pavel
Donnay, Troy
Duclair, Anthony
Fogarty, Steven
Graves, Ryan
Haggery, Ryan
Halverson, Brandon
Hrivik, Marek
Hughes, Tommy
Iverson, Keegan
Kantor, Michael
Mantha, Ryan
McCarthy, Chris
Nanne, Tyler
Nicholls, Josh
Nieves, Cristoval
Noreau, Samuel
Nejezchleb, Richard
Shestyorkin, Igor
Skapski, Mackenzie
St. Croix, Michael
Tambellini, Adam
Walcot, Daniel
Yogan, Andrew
Zamorsky, Petr

I think all of the above listed prospects deserves to be ranked. None are total garbage, so having 30+5 is perfect because we have 35 prospects (in addition to Missian, Stajcer and Kyle Jean).

While we don't have a lot of star power on top, we do have a lot of depth and on occasion that depth does turn into something decent.

We have Hagelin at #21, Weise at #23, Horak at #28 in the summer of 2009. If we could again pull out a 2/3 line tweener, a 4th liner and a borderline NHLer outside of our top-20, would be very helpful.

I bet The Russian Butcher will be underrated here. He was 4th in points on his KHL team as an 18 year old who didn't turn 19 until after the end of the season. He then went to the Russian Juniors and was a flat out superstar there. He was also among the top players on the Bronze-winning Russian WJC team.

He's my #3 behind Duclair and Miller.

I hate having so few choices here, though.

Buch has the best raw talent no? If at least one of him or Duclair pans our, I think we'll have a very good winger on our hands

I don't see putting him lower than fourth or fifth. He's only behind Miller, Skjei, and Duclair for me.

Yeah, the ranks are thinning.
