WC: Team USA 2025 - Golden

You have to think about, sports wise, whats going on in the US right now. NBA and NHL playoffs. MLB season has started. In certain pockets, College Baseball conference finals are going on.

And its memorial day weekend when the tournament is ending. Its just not the best time in the US for the WC. Too much going on. Barbecues are fired up.

Only the diehards watch..

Unfortunately nobody but the super super die hards of US hockey care about this and even with that there's not many of us.

Tomorrow is also the biggest day in racing with the Monaco grand prix, Indy 500 and Coke 600. Plus in the US the games are only on the NHL Network which we have to pay more for. I only pay for it during the world juniors and the world and cancel when the tournaments are over.

So who from this team will make the Olympic roster?

Werenski
Swayman
Keller
Thompson

?
It really comes down to how the brass wants to build the roster. Werenski for sure. Swayman I think is going to have to prove he's found his game again after this past season to make it. If I had to guess, probably one or neither of Keller and Thompson.

Other guys with outside shots: Cooley, Beniers, and Lacombe.

Cooley PK's already, and that could give him a leg up over some other options if he takes another step and has a huge year next season.

I could see Beniers in the Trocheck role if he has a breakout season offensively next year. (I don't think we need a guy in the Trocheck/4th line C role, but it seems like USA Hockey does)

Lacombe I just think is really, really good, but the US has a murderer's row of options at LD so he probably needs to take another step and have a massive year next year (possible) but the odds are stacked against him.

Lacombe played significant minutes rhd for Anaheim.

I think all four make the team, in particular since it's a 25 player roster. Here's my team as of the moment:

Goaltenders (x3):

Hellebucyk
Oettinger
Swayman

* The likes of Daccord, Demko, and Wolf will also be in the mix

Defensemen (x8):

Q, Hughes/McAvoy
Faber/Slavin
Werenski/Fox
Sanderson/L. Hughes

* I think Lacombe, Hutson, Pionk, Samberg, McDonagh, Roy, Carlson, and Mikey Anderson will be in the mix

Forwards (x14):

M. Tkachuk/Matthews/J. Hughes
Connor/Eichel/Boldy
Keller/Miller/Thompson
Guentzel/Larkin/B. Tkachuk
Tuch/Cooley

* Other possibilities include Garland, P. Kane, Beniers, Caufield, Knies, DeBrincat, and Robertson

There are going to be some very good players left off, especially at forward. One player I don't currently have on the team that I think may have a great shot is Garland. He's shown a lot, can play up and down the lineup, and has a non-stop motor. It's contagious.

Crazy how much speed and skill the US has pumped out the last few years

Look at the 22 & under group on this team:
Cooley
Gauthier
Smith
Nazar
Beniers
Howard
Buium

And that doesn't include other NHL guys who could absolutely be impact players at this level, like

Knies
Coronato
Snuggerud
Leonard
Brindley
Moore
Perreault
Mcgroarty
L Hughes
Hutson
Casey
Rinzel

And this ignore the huge talent pool from the 2019 draft class.

We're gonna have so much depth for years to come.

No chance for Vlasic?

Our U25 roster would be pretty outrageous. It's a good thing too, the U20 talent pipeline is pretty weak...

Tkachuk - Hughes - Caufield
Knies - Cooley - Boldy
Nazar - Beniers - Pinto
Gauthier - Smith - Snuggerud
Zegras, Coronato

Quinn - Faber
Vlasic - Luke
Sanderson - Hutson
Lacombe

Wolf
Knight
Augustine

And there's a lot of really talented younger guys who could definitely crack this group before too long. Our depth across these age groups goes about 7 lines deep...

Pretty close to what I would have. The only real discrepancy I have is that I don't think the US will take both Keller and Guentzel over someone like Knies. (Even though I think they're both better players)

I harp on it over and over, but every federation is going to make sure they have the penalty killers box checked when constructing a roster, and you don't want 3 of your forwards on the kill to be C's. Knies also gives some more size and physicality, which we know these teams want.

Another option to maybe make this work would be to flip Thompson and Miller on these lines, and your penalty killers are Eichel, Larkin, Hughes, and Miller. (And then if one of those guys are in the box, Matthews steps in as the next guy up)

Well here we go.

A team where the top talent was "forced to be here" a bunch of kids too naive to realize they shouldn't be in the gold medal game & some veterans that people pissed and moaned about (mcCarron, O'Connor, Eyssimont, etc) being on the team are now walking out for the first time in 91 years for the gold medal game.

You couldn't write a better script than this. You just never know how a team can come together & this team is proof of that.

One job left. Win. Let's goooooo boys!!!🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
