WC: Team USA 2025 - Golden

This is an incredible team. How can they do this again? Foot completely off the gas after the first period.

The IIHF referees are the biggest piece of garbage there is. First they call a penalty for Cooley in front of the net when the other guy comes for a cross check. Then a clear high stick is not called and a goal is scored on a counterattack.

I don't know what Werenski did on the first goal. Or actually he didn't do anything and let the German go freely and score. Werenski has been terrible anyway.

You can't blame Daccord for the goals, but he can'tmake those game savers either.

Luck is not our side either. Pucks bounce to the net from all over the place and the refereeing is what it is.

At the very least both the German player and Cooley should have both gone. Truly IIHF reffing creeping it's awful head into a game.

These empty stands in Herning are not helping to motivate the guys. Of course, it's not an excuse. However, this team's performance has been exceptionally weak and lifeless.

I believe that the long and boring preliminary round is one of the reasons why players are not very excited about participating in this tournament.

is it really an issue of the tournament format if players can't get motivated to play for their country? Isn't it more likely a cultural issue that the vast majority doesn't care about anything related to hockey which is not NHL because they don't know anything about it and wonder how a team with an NHL roster can lose to non NHL players? crosby, mckinnon, celebrini don't seem unmotivated to me, could it end up being a US-specific problem?

It doesn't seem to be an issue for other teams though. Use the long prelim to find your game and lock in for the medal rounds. It can be a good thing if used correctly.

I think it is a issue for various teams every year...
