WC: Team USA 2025 - Golden

Troy Terry is truly puzzling. American hero, played on the USNDP, played in WJC - and he turns down every year since becoming a pro pretty much.. Him being here would have been icing on the cake and setup 2 proven NHL scoring lines...I just don't get this guy- he signed a 7 year deal as well like a year or so back- he is set for life.

Just no interest it seems. Never even any reports or quotes about it

Feels like a guy that knows he doesn't have a real shot at our best of teams barring a huge outlier season, so he's lost his motivation for the senior national team. Which is a bummer given his history to your point. Also doesn't help that he's been with Anaheim the whole time. I feel like that situation has killed the hockey joy for so many players in that organization.

So we are all rooting for the Ducks to make the playoffs next season it seems right? :) Gotta keep that morale up

Goalie depth chart

1) Hellebuyck
2) Oettinger

(gap)

3) Swayman
4) Wolf
5) Daccord
6) Stolarz
7) Woll
8) Lindgren
9) Knight
10) Gibson

??? Demko

Top 2 are so locked in right now that the 3rd guy for the Olympics next year hopefully isn't too important. Obviously though if one is not available that becomes your backup and is important. A good performance here could probably save Swayman's spot but if Wolf is on fire to start next season, too hard to overlook.

Stolarz at 6th is too low. The most underrated American goalie and in the top 3 in my opinion.

It's good to have Daccord as part of the goalie depth. Especially when the Worlds team is being assembled, all options are welcome.

I am very disappointed with O'Connor and McCarron. O'Connor was good last time at least. However, I would have preferred to take his teammate Sherwood, for example. There was such a big list of better options to replace McCarron that I don't understand this choice.

Nazar has been really good in recent months so I am really happy that he is included. I believe he will play a big role.

Skjei was a big addition and exactly what the defense needed.

I am disappointed that bubble players like Terry and DeBrincat did not follow Thompson and Keller's example. DeBrincat in particular is really close, but this was not a convincing decision.

If McCarron is on this team it's because they were turned down by better options. Put him on the 4th line and he'll be fine.

I doubt that. There were lot of better options who would have said yes but Kealty needed to bring one of his own. Those other options weren't top line talent either so he probably thought that let's bring him to be extra forward. In that sense it's not a big deal but still a bit disappointing.

BTW: What is the roster size these days? 25?

That is likely, but he also is a veteran that wanted to come who they get to reward. There are also potential friendships that we might not be overly familiar with...bringing McCarron might bring so and so as well...we have seen that numerous times, most recently with Johnny Hockey and Kayes - also the Tuch brothers.. Just saying maybe he is the reason we got Skjei...I make that deal 10 out of 10 times.. By adding veterans it shows they want to attract other veterans which is why I feel some of the kids like Smith, Coronato and Brink haven't been announced yet- some won't suit up if its basically a team of teenagers..

25 is the roster size but there are some loopholes in there as well we have seen lately when it comes to injuries lol....

As it stands- this team is heavy on LD - need to bring in another RD - Vlasic can play off hand as well so playing him on the right side...

Brady Skjei - Alex Vlasic
Jackson LaCombe - Michael Kesselring

Mason Lohrei - Andrew Peeke

Cutter Gauthier - Tage Thompson - Conor Garland
Will Smith - Logan Cooley - Clayton Keller

Matt Coronato - Matty Beniers - Bobby Brink
Drew O'Connor - Frank Nazar - Michael McCarron
(Nazar gonna make these two look like corpses lol)

Jeremy Swayman
Joey Daccord

Hampton Slukynsky

That leaves 4 open spots for either Hutson, Caufield, L Hughes or maybe even a Larkin...
This team is going to be extremely fast. Very young but very skilled. Someone like K'Andre Miller would still be a nice add here but he is LD too - so we will see what the brass decides, but take guys who want to play now & not piss them away in hopes of landing someone who gets knocked out round 1.

This team looks like one of the better ones we have seen so far. Fingers crossed on final adds.
"Hutson, Caufield, L Hughes or maybe even a Larkin."

That would be sweet for sure.

I’m a little puzzled why D’accord didn’t go with Canada or the Swiss because he would have a better shot at making the team and being a goalie there. But I mean good on US brass making the comp weaker.
It might be passport related. I will also say, that if he has a good tournament here and a good start to the NHL season next year there is a good chance he could be the #3 goalie on the Olympic team. The only secure spots are Hellebuyck and Oettenger

I mean, the player also has to want to represent that country. If he has no attachment to Swiss or very little to Canada playing for them might not really matter. He seems like someone that spent most of his life in the US, I can't find any time he wasn't playing in the US even from his youth. So he likely picked what he feels he is, an American. Good for the US to take him off the market like you said as well..

It almost feels like they can be very patient with the last spots, in case a few guys "mulling" offers need the extra week or first round exits like Montreal/New Jersey... when you have kids like McGroarty and Perreault now NHLers who you can call on makes waiting not that risky like years past. Plus look at some of the kids playing in the playoffs who could jump in as well like Hutson, Leonard or Snuggerud. So much young talent

He became father 1.5 years ago and wanted to help his wife as much as possible. This ended up badly for him stats-wise these past two seasons. You can notice him being a lot more focused and, apparently, well-rested when playing away games. However, he puts family first and hockey second, which I respect. If the Worlds were in the US or in Canada, he surely would go. But not across the pond.
