Well, he has been selected. Do I want him on the team, yes although he's gotten off to a slow start. He's still one of the best forwards in the league. I guess your question is less about him as a player and what he will contribute on the ice and more about the Beach case? I'm not going to cancel Kane for what happened 10+ years ago when he was a young player himself and the circumstances of what he did know and did/did not do are murky.
I think most have an issue with Kane's recent comments about it.

Johnny Hockey is playing at a level where USA Hockey can NOT afford to say no - another point, tonight. Same for Stamkos with Team Canada.

Agreed. Prior to this early season they’d be an easy no, but hard deny. Obviously they’d have to keep up the strong play.

I'm wondering if guys like Copp, Rust, and Coleman will get looks in a 4th line role?

They should definitely be considered. Team USA even without Eichel as 2C will have a formidable side, with an abundance of quality depth options to fill in around their locks upfront.

Since the US is strong from net out, for their forward core instead of opting for an all star team suspect they’ll select players for the bottom 6 or that are both m skilled with size/grit/jam elements.

Tkachuk(s), Nelson, Miller, Oshie, Copp, Garland, Rust, Coleman et al should get strong consideration either at the bottom of the lineup or uptop to complement finesse forwards.

Don’t see Kreider in alot of lineups. He is streaky and the US has a ton of real good left shot wings projected. But I wonder if he keeps up this play through the new year, does he get on the Olympic team.

One of the top-scoring defensemen in the league shouldn't be considered for team USA?

Correct. It's been 7 games and he plays sheltered minutes on a stacked team. Shattenkirk has 8 points, too, and he won't be in consideration, either. This is to say nothing of DeAngelo being horrible defensively or his well documented toxic behavior.

As long as Kreider stays healthy its unlikely he
isn't making the team. He is one of the top 7 US
goal scorers from last year to this year.
He is well liked by USA Hockey. Absolutely
has valuable dimensions no other USOHT candidate has.
Think Bob Gainey as a comparable in style.

Terry and Shattenkirk should definitely be considered. Only current form should matter when team is picked. That is why it is dumb that three players were named before the season even started. Yes, it would be shock if those guys would not be good enough this season but i still don't get it why all big teams needed to name their first three players so early.

Agree with Terry, but Shattenkirk’s still been bad defensively and will get exposed on the larger ice. If anything, I think Fowler is having a great season and if he keeps it up should be considered.

Terry's had a great start to be sure but he's likely competing with these guys (minus Patrick Kane who has already been named to the team):

* Conor Garland
* Cam Atkinson
* T.J. Oshie
* Brock Boeser
* Blake Wheeler
* Bryan Rust

It's not as deep a position as in past years so I suppose he could make a case if he keeps this up. It will depend greatly on whether guys like Boeser and Wheeler can get going IMO.

Peters: Projecting Team USA's Beijing 2022 Olympic roster - Version 1 - Daily Faceoff

Pretty good projection imo. I think I'd have Norris over Nelson or Miller, but with Jones being locked in there's not many other changes I'd make.

Agreed. It's pretty close to the team I'd ice. The thing about Miller is he can play wing/center equally well, he puts up numbers, and competes hard. He's also a vet. I can see him over Norris for sure but there may be room for both.

I like Nelson always commits to the Men's Worlds for the US. Just don't have him over Farabee right now.

Tough decision on Wheeler. Still a play maker. Good veteran presence.

Nelson is a quality C which US isn't deep at. Farabee
is a wing which US is deeper at.

Matthews-Larkin-Miller-Nelson looks very likely.
Not precluding Farabee though on W.

How the hell is Demko considered a bubble guy by some posters in here? The Canucks are ass and he keeps them in games. I’d shudder to think of how much worse they would be with Gibson or Peterson in net. And when he’s had to play in the playoffs, he played even better(small sample size but still).

Not even being a homer here since I understand why people would leave off Hughes, Miller and Boeser

I see Demko as one of three goalies for sure. I also think Miller is a shoo-in. Hughes, Boeser, and Garland also have a chance.

Because he is a bubble guy? Most players in contention are bubble guys. It's not a bad thing, it's speaks to the improving depth - overall and top end talent - for USAH. It's odd how defensive fans of specific teams get about it. Vancouver may be ass but they're better than the Kings and Ducks and we have no idea how Gibson or Petersen would perform if the roles were reversed. The only reality is none of the top American goalies play behind "good" defenses and it'll be interesting to see any of them play for what should (never know with USAH) be one of the top defense cores in the tournament.

No one would be surprised or upset if Demko makes the team. He's a top contender and he's started the year the best amongst the primary competition. He could end up the team's starter. And if he continues his level of play to start the season though the end of the year, he's almost assuredly on the team, especially with Petersen's poor start.

Fair, to me these guys all play behind pretty shoddy defensive teams and if we factor in straight up sv% plus games played over the past couple of years, Demko comes in ahead of Gibson, Peterson, Blackwood.

For me it would be Helle’s starter job to lose, Demko comfortably slotted in as #2 and then a pretty open race for the 3rd guy

Again, not even being a homer here. I’m not sure if I’d have any Canuck skaters on my team USA team, but Demko would be a lock for me.
