I know it's only two games BUT with Bickel probably playing his way out of the lineup we're not anywhere near as nasty as last year. And with our top forward (Nash) not hesitating to throw his weight around I see a lot of teams taking runs at him. Rupp and Asham gonna have a lot of work, not sure they are up to the task.

Yes, I miss Prust already.

this is where mcilrath would be great to have

Rupp might be up for the work but he would not be much force against younger or more willing guys . After watching AA against Glass...it looked like he would need 3 days off to recover meanwhile Glass was all over the ice during the remainder of the game . Funny how teams get guys like that and we get Penguin /Flyer has beens !!! Do the Rangers ever scout anybody outside of the division before they sign them ??? I'm beginning to think they don't !

Tanner Glass makes 100,000 more than AA . He is worth every cent of it .

Glass would have been a real nice fit. no question.

I don't think it's a lack of toughness I think the team is lacking someone with the speed and grittiness to get in on the forecheck and create turnovers. Callahan does it. They need someone who can agitate and forecheck well. The sort of player I am talking about has some skill but there main job is to stir the pot and make life miserable for the other team.

It's not fighting that needs to be addressed. It's grittiness and speed.

Toughness is not only fighting, watch Cally and Danny G play arguably 2 of the toughest guys in the league...

Glass would have been the better fit than Asham...I just think that Sather takes the easy way out with these type of signings...Brasher, Rupp, Asham....when there were younger, hungrier options available.

I thought the Rangers could have entertained the thought of signing Carkner as the 6dman, instead of bring back a guy like Gilroy who will do nothing for us.

In the Boston game...when Rupp fought Thornton and Bickel fought Campbell, it left Lucic to run around like a mad man...we have no answers for that.

We might have size on the 3rd line and rupp and Asham on the 4th but Halepern has been a complete waste...isn't he a faceoff specialist...why bring in this old tired guy for the 4th line...a lot of fans thougt this was a great move...i look at it as a move that is going to have to be corrected soon. The Pens have Vitale who was all over the ice...the Bruins have Campbell...

The Stars traded Mark Fristic for a 3rd...that is a deal we should make...brings size and can give us 12-16 minutes a game...only under control for this year.

Nick Foligno was available...

Staal, McD, Boyle, Pyatt, Nash and a few more also, they are not a soft team...

These guys are a different kind of tough. They are NOT imposing types of players. They are guys that will take a puck and not miss a shift. Take a slash and come right back out.

They are aslo not going to retaliate, or hold players accountable for thier actions.

TOUGHNESS BAROMETER
Nash = Dubinsky
Halpern = Mitchell
Kreider > Anisimov
Pyatt > Fedotenko
Asham < Prust

Everybody else is the same (minus Sauer :( )

Now go get Douglas Murray to be used a 3rd paring RD
He can both play and drop them
Free agent...
Problem solved

They are lacking a forecheck, not fighting skills. Rupp, Asham, Bickel and Pyatt are slow. That's the difference. If they aren't fighting they aren't doing much to force the issue. Need someone who can skate well and deliver some hits that keep the other teams heads up.

There is no way that Asham isn't as tough as Prust. He may be older but he is just as tough if not tougher.

Rupp & Asham are 4th liners. You are right about them being a bit slow.
Was not a problem yesterday - but was against Boston (Asham was out). Not the traditional speed/energy injection we are used to on the 4th line. But I do not think Rupp has sucked at all really. Just not very noticable in limited time.
Pyatt has been better than most so far IMO. Not a speedster though.
Bickel, well yeah...
Forchecking has been bad so far.
On all the lines
Team seems totally unprepared for NHL play right now - except some of the players that were playing in Europe. Hank, Gaborik, staal and Richards particularly.
