I posted this on the Canes forum..but thought I'd post it here. I saw a few similar threads here.....but most of the good suggestions were not suitable for a kids team :)

My neighbor mentioned to me last night that his son's roller hockey team (9-10 year olds) needs to come up with a team name for the upcoming season. The league allows them pretty much free reign on picking a name (as long as it is clean and tasteful).

I told him I'd try to poll the people on HF boards to see if there were some good suggestions for a bunch of 10 year olds.

He mentioned one team picked "ZZTop Shelf" which I thought was great for kids.

Some names he said the kids/parents already suggested were:

The EH! team
The Malkin Tents
Team Chuck Norris (apparently the kids are into "Chuck Norris" jokes)

Anybody have any good suggestions?

Then give all the kids on the team super-hero nicknames from the movie.
 
I have coached from Intro to hockey through peewee. I always let the kids pick the name. It is THEIR TEAM after all, not mine. I typically get all the kids to rattle off some suggestions, limit one per kid, have an initial vote and then a final vote amongst the top two or three vote getters. It takes all of five minutes in the locker room and the kids like it because it's THEIR TEAM, not mine.

The Pee Wee Kiwis (this one's a little fruity)
The Scorpions (Rock You Like a Hurricane!!!!!)
or just "The Canes" and have a logo of a walking stick

Actually, OP, your original suggestions were kinda good.
 
Ive always wanted to play on a team named the "Watermellon's"

Thanks for all the tips...I'll pass them along to my neighbor. Funny that someone said Watermelons....he told me one of the kids came up with Kamikaze Watermelons.

One of my favorite kids team name / experience was a Squirt Ice Team playing in a spring league a few years back. I was at the rink waiting for some pickup and the kids were playing beforehand. I noticed that all the names on the jerseys looked Russian so I asked one of the parents what that was about. He told me to look closer at the names.

I then paid attention and saw Fetisov, Kasatanov, Kharlamov, etc....

Apparently, the parent told me that the kids were given red jerseys for the season and couldn't come up with a team name. About 1/2 way through the season one of the kids recommended the Red Army. They then went out and each picked a name from the 1980 Soviet Olympic team and had that name put on the jerseys. The kid who had Mikhailov actually had the K on the front of his jersey. Was pretty funny to see.

Then play "Hungry Like a Wolf" for their warn up song from Duran Duran.

sorry, for some reason I thought it was a ball hockey team, my reading is not very good. Then go with 'puck hogs', they do that a lot in inline anyways.
 
They're a team in a rec league, that would make them "The Wreck Team", right?

There's a lot of really good names. But I like the idea of letting the kids have the final say. Maybe get some good ones, go to the team and get one more from every kid, put em up on a white board and have a vote.
