So let's see, plucky outsiders given no chance of success, left off the good teams, a rag tag band of strangers having to come together at the last minute, led by a quirky outsider coach who was fired from his team, leaving hockey completely and then being lured back.
Is this a real world Mighty Ducks movie? There must of course be adversity, that first exhibition game they win, believing in themselves. A serious soul searching at the hotel between the coach and the main protagonist (maybe Chara as the old and broken player given one last chance to shine). Then there will be a montage of Leftovers winning over much better teams en route to the final.
Even better would be if they are in the final against the overwhelming favorite, eg evil empire arrogant Canada, with Getzlaf taunting them. And then they somehow prevail, with the OT game winner by, hmm, who would be the hero? Kopitar? Then it all ends with them singing, We Are The Champions?
Definitely Hollywood material
