He's a good finisher and has brains. He has been stuck with 4th line plugs his entire short NHL career. In the Marlies he was THE guy on his team after Nylander left and I'm pretty sure he'll play a top 6 role for the Leafs eventually.

Exactly. Somehow over the hill Pesonen is a top six player and Kapanen is labelled as bottom six plug because of his still young NHL career. What I've gathered, many of the Toronto fans would like to see Kapanen in top 6 role already next season. None of Pesonen, Mäenalanen nor Savinainen etc have never been even close to being top 6 at NHL level, so whith what logic do some here categorize Kapanen as automatic bottom 6 over those guys? Beats me.

it's not about who has the most potential but more about who fits the line and the role the best right now. Kapanen might have way more talent than Pesonen and Savinainen but it doesn't mean that he brings what they do in a line such as Aho's. That line needs someone physical to create space and allow TT and Aho do the magic. Savinainen fits that role better than Kapanen. + Savinainen is more of a LW than Kapanen is

Kapanen is very physical. That is exactly why I want him there.

Not sure about the PP unit. Either TT or MG is going to play as netfront guy, seems kinda of a waste. Assuming Rantanen is playing as the shooter on the right side and Aho is playing in the middle.

You can´t build the "traditional" top 6 - bottom 6 lineup from these parts. I don´t complitely understand the fixation to put all the NHL players in the same line. It´s not disrespecting Kapanen to put him on third line. In fact I feel more confident if guys like Suomela, Manninen gets Kapanen on their line. There is possibility that the line can be real factor. I believe that Kapanen is going to get key role in this team. There is nothing wrong if he doesn´t play in "dream team" type of first line.

Nice to hear since I haven't followed him that closely or attentively. Though I am, of course, aware of his goal scoring abilities, didn't he also score a nice goal also against the Bruins in the POs, stole the puck from some Marchand and deked the goalie out of his socks/pants/position and put the puck in? He has always scored more than done anything else on ice except maybe skating fast. He secured the Gold to Finland at the home WJC 2016 etc. He has that department of the game nicely and safely in the pack pocket.

What I am mostly after here is the idea that as he might have a sharp hockey mind evolving it is still immature and prone to lapses. His feet are faster than his thoughts and he has no defensive awareness or sense of responsibility to play in a top 6 role in this team. What business has he then in the bottom 6 - or in the team at all? Not much, I reckon but the generation change and rejuvenation process of the NT has something to do with it. And in the bottom 6 other guys can cover him up better if he happens to "go berserk" with his immature tunnel vision in his single-minded chase for a goal.

Do you realize that he has had a checking role all season and he plays PK? He has third lowest GA on 5v5 on the team. Defending is what he's become really good at...because otherwise he wouldn't be playing.

Where is the information from your practice about regular and pp lines? What do your journalists do?
We need information for fantasy))

Kilpelainen, Heiskanen, Mikkola, Niemi and Palola are not registered
Heiskanen will no doubt be registered before the opener, at the moment they're 100% sure he is healthy.

The biggest surprise is leaving Niemi out at this stage. If we piece all the other relevant information together, looks like Pesonen beat him for the 4C job.

This also gives us a decent idea about what kind of lineup Marjamäki has in mind...

Kapanen - Granlund - Rantanen
Savinainen - Aho - Teräväinen
Manninen - Suomela - Mäenalanen
Jormakka - Pesonen - Anttila

Pokka,Kivistö,Honka,Riikola,Koivisto,Nutivaara for game 1....

I know its against Korea and all, a game we will dominate as much as we want,
but lets not forget they have pretty fast team, that was learned from the Olympics.

No Heiskanen and Jokiharju got dropped, Honka is the only really strong and fast skater
and a true puck moving d-man in that d sextet. Hopefully Miro is in versus Latvia.

Wouldn't worry too much. The first games are on easy/normal mode anyway if Heiskanen still has effects from the illness

Kapanen in first would be disastrous*.

Teräväinen-Aho-Rantanen
Pesonen-Granlund-Jormakka
Mäenalanen-Suomela-Savinainen
Kapanen-Manninen-Anttila

after Niemi gets "stamped"

Teräväinen-Aho-Rantanen
Pesonen-Granlund-Jormakka
Mäenalanen-Suomela-Savinainen
Kapanen-Niemi-Anttila

*Kappy should be as far away as possible from top 6,
not even Marjamäki can be that _ _ _ _ _ _
but who knows...

FYI, the projection comes straight out of today's practice.

Out of curiosity, do you have any coaching experience? Even from a beer league?
