And if Finland coach Marjamäki has the courage as a coach to that - then he is beyond me.

And if not - than I will (almost!) kiss his feet.

But it will probably be a Finland mish mash as always.

I got the impression that it was nothing. Media's overreaction. He could have had cold or something small. Ehlers missed some practices as well right and they hang out together a lot so probably infected each other.

When it goes for some days it tends to be injury related, don't need to be a major but something bothering.

Not that susprised on Koivu, good news on Kaps. Still don't have anywhere near the talent other top teams have but the team has speed with skill, unlike the past teams.

Hey folks, as this is my first post here I'd like to ask whether there are any chances of adding Lehtera and Vatanen (I know he was injured during the PO) to the final roster? As far as the forward group is highly skilled and fast, most of the players are pretty "undersized". So maybe there is a room for Jori, who could strengthen the C position? On the other hand, after his poor performances with the Flyers this season I'm not so sure... As for Vats, I don't know if he has officially declined or not but he'd be a huge help for the Defence. Some kind of veteran presence I would say.
I watched CZE-FIN game today and the Finns were totally dominant, especially in the 1st & 3rd. The Czechs just couldn't handle the speed and forechecking. Interesting how the game plan will look like when all of the NHLers are ready.
And of course congrats for advancing to the WCH u18 Final, again!

Vatanen has declined. At this point even Lehterä would be a nice addition to our meager center group but no word so far

According to GM Lehtinen, all the possible NHL additions have been announced. If more are coming, they'll be coming after the 2nd round. That means no Lehterä.

My notes after today's game:

Husso is growing on me. The best word to describe him would be "nonchalant". He looks very steady and calm and makes even the big saves appear like routine work. Yet I don't think he's on his way to become the starter just yet, the job is still Säteri's to lose. However, we're definitely in a situation where the management can safely try the other guy if the designated starter stumbles, instead of simply crossing their hands and praying the no.1 guy gets his act together because they trust the backup even less.

As for defense... I've no idea what kind of answers today gave to our coach. Well, I'm sure he did get some data, but I really can't tell what he's gonna make of it. We still have five locks - Nutivaara, Honka, Heiskanen, Pokka, and Kivistö - and the rest of the pack is battling for the remaining three spots. Though I must say, I earlier limited the options to four hopefuls, but I wouldn't be awfully surprised even if Näkyvä or Jürgens somehow made it. That crop is truly that indistinguishable from each other.

I was trying to keep extra close eye on Juolevi, since it was his first men's NT game. And the best word I could use about him is "mistake-free". He was given a fair look with a decent amount of minutes, though it was practically all on 5on5, he didn't feature in any special teams. His performance was solid, and I wouldn't mind it if he made it. But can I say he did anything that put him above the other hopefuls? Not really.

Oh right, maybe we have six locks, since Hakanpää is still holding out hope.

In the forward department, Pesonen potentially punched his ticket. He sure put up a convincing performance, his PB award was well deserved. And what makes it even more impressive is that Marjamäki used him as a center. Late sure knew what he was doing when he invited Pessi, he might just be the piece that's gonna complement our projected top-six.

Sandell also had a good game. He's been surprisingly steady throughout the camp, so him making the cut to a bottom-six role or as an extra wouldn't be surprising, especially if Lajunen declines an invite.

That above piece about Hakanpää also contains a revelation that Junttila is not 100%. So taking that into account, I'd put my current projection of our forward lines as follows...

Teräväinen - Aho - Rantanen
Pesonen - Granlund - Kapanen
Manninen - Suomela - Savinainen
Peltola - Niemi - Anttila

Another option I was thinking is that Marjamäki may be looking to take advantage of the existing chemistries between the Växjö duo. In that case...

Teräväinen - Aho - Rantanen
Savinainen - Granlund - Kapanen
Pesonen - Suomela - Kiiskinen
Peltola - Niemi - Anttila

I would be genuinly surprised if Flyers don´t buy out Lehterä. I know that Hextall said so but people say lot of stuff. Lehterä may need to find new team. So his declining was sort of expected.

Would it make sense to Flyers to trade Lehtera off season with retaining some, if they find a buyer? Risking an injury in WHC wouldn't fit the plan.

Updated guess:

Teräväinen - Aho - Rantanen
Pesonen - Granlund - Kiiskinen
XX - Suomela - Kapanen
XX - Niemi/Lajunen - Anttila

XX: Manninen/Peltola/Sallinen/Rajala/Savinainen/Enlund/Kuusela

Not a big deal to me if Pesonen makes it or not but I think Marjamäki will select him and he fits in terms of bringing that much needed veteran leadership. Still could use more experience so hopefully Peltola is selected as well. Peltola getting the (C), Pesonen (A), Granlund or Rantanen the last (A) if not Nutivaara for his Kärpät background. Aho could get (A) as well. I predict that one former Kärpät player is assistant captain if it even matters...

Peltola oozes leadership qualities, no question about that, but in the NT circles, he's still far from the kind of high-profile player you give a letter in a major tournament, let alone the C. Heck, this is basically his first year when he's any kind of significant figure within these circles. And it's something of a question mark for how long he will retain that significance.

That being said, because we don't have all that many natural leader types, I could still see him getting an A. But for C, you need a seasoned NT player who's expected to lead by example. Yes, there aren't many, but there is one. Of course, Marjamäki may choose to break the tradition and given the circumstances I'd understand completely if he does - but if he doesn't, he has little choice but slap the C on Granlund's jersey. A's can be handed to more mature presence, probably two of Pesonen/Peltola/Savinainen. Or he may elect to give a nod to our future leadership, give one A to one of those vets, and another to either Aho or Rantanen.

Are there many Finnish players who debuted at the IIHF Worlds at the age of 30 and continued to play at that level for a long time?

Here's mine line lottery ticket

Rantanen-Aho-Teräväinen
Rajala-Granlund-Kapanen
Kiiskinen-Suomela-Pesonen
Savinainen-Sallinen-Anttila
Peltola, Junttila

Nutivaara-Honka
Heiskanen-Pokka
Kivistö-Jokiharju
Hakanpää-Vaakanainen

Husso
Säteri
Kilpeläinen

If Hakanpää is injured, replace him with Niko Mikkola.

Granlund as the captain sounds good to me. That makes him Captain Finnish Baby Jesus :).

Rember though that Tapola is the assistant coach and will probably vouch for Peltola's captaincy.

Since when Pesonen and J.Sallinen are centers? Hopefully the pick some natural centers too for the final team.

Thanks for the answer. Didn't know about Vatanen's declining but this decision is understandable given his recent injury. And it seems that no Lehterä either. At least one more proven center would be a nice pick for sure.
