Nyman and Räsänen will play today.

Räsänen will be the 7th defenseman and Nyman will play with Vesalainen and Ikonen. I'd assume this means that Kupari will play with Koskenkorva and Kotkaniemi.

Does Finland have a spot for Jokiharju?.
They can add one skater. However, they have currently 12 forwards and 7 d-men in the roster, which means they might be preferring to add a forward.

Of course, if injuries happen, it's not a major leap to convert a d-man to a bottom-six winger, especially in junior hockey.

Otto Latvala is already a winner in the hockey hair category.

One spot left but it would be kinda risky to pick 8 d-man and only 12 forwards.

Yes it's very risky to add 8 d-mans and only 12 forwards.
But let's see what's the case and what Finland's management decides.

Matti Härkönen and Marko Tuulola speculated during the Switzerland game Finland might add Vaakanainen if JYP losing to Kalpa tonight.
Edit JYP is down 3-1 48:43 minutes played 3rd period.

place a more useless d as the 13th forward, play jokiharju or vaakanainen on d, problem solved.

Finland has forward problem
If our team management adds Vaakanainen then we have 8 defenceman's and 12 forwards on the roster.

If injuries happen ( hopefully not) then we have only 11 forwards.
It's big risk to add one more d-man but no one more forward.

Of course Finland can wait if Heponiemi comes available in WHL playoffs.
But Swift-Current leads Regina 3-2 so it's unlikely Heponiemi will play in this tournament.
And if he ( Heponiemi) does he won't be Finland's roster before U18 WJC quarterfinals.

This exactly what I said above. Any team should make sure it has at least some kind of buffer with d-men and centers, but no one ever makes contingency plans for there being enough wingers - and that's for a reason. If you find yourself with only seven wingers, slotting a d-man as a 4th line winger is the easiest conversion of positions in hockey. It's even more so in U18 hockey, since not too long ago these kids have still been playing in teams where positions were rotated on a steady basis.

I could understand them balking on Jokiharju, but Vaakanainen is now available - it's a perfectly reasonable calculated risk to add him.

That sucks. Wish their scheduling at USHL would be more fair towards U18. Sorry for the late reply btw.

Tolvanen would have been huge add for Finland's team.
But honestly said he has nothing to prove in U18 WJC's.

Every NHL scout knows that Tolvanen is excellent goal-scorer.
Yes another U18 WJC gold medal would have been good achievement for Tolvanen.

With those game schedules what USHL did their playoffs was kinda expected that Tolvanen will miss U18 WJC's.
Sioux City was USHL's best team in USHL's regular season and if they wanna win USHL championship they need Tolvanen's goals more than Finland.

Linus Nyman is solid replace for Tolvanen's spot.

Heponiemi and the Swift Current just lost game 7,
pretty crazy,led the series 3-1,losing 3 straight...

Cant teams add players after round robin,
at least change an injured player?.

Not that i hope one of our forwards would get hurt vs Canada,
but Aleksi Heponiemi would be insane add-on.

Finland's head coach Juuso Nieminen said when Vaakanainen joined in the team Finland won't add more players anymore all spots are filled.
Also it's not surprise Swift-Current lost game 7 in WHL playoffs.
They had only one advantage on that series and it was their goalie who was able to steal those 3 wins for Swift-Current.

Regina is WHL's best team and they are memorial cup favorite.
If Finland would not have taken Vaakanainen in the team so now Finland would have the opportunity add Heponiemi in the team.
But it's too late now. Finland's team is ready

Love the way Rasmus Kupari does his job. He has been clearly the most dominant player from his line at every game, with his huge vision he has been able to be always one step ahead of everyone else. He can stay on the puck and he plays defense like monster. He uses his body to get opponents out of his way. I don't really remember many mistakes from last 2 games. Very exciting talent. Tonight game against Canada will be very interesting at many ways.

So we have:

USA 12 points
RUS 6 points
SWE 6 points
CZE 3 points

SWE can't get anymore points. CZE-RUS game left, so if CZE wins and gets 3 points, what happens in a 3 way tie?

RUS beat SWE 3-1
SWE beat CZE 3-2 regular time
CZE vs RUS - ? Not played yet.

So if I'm not mistaken in a 3 way tie it's impossible for Finland to face RUS no matter what because RUS beat SWE by 2 goals, while SWE beat CZE by 1 goal, so no matter what RUS stays ahead of Sweden.

Doesn't matter which SWE or CZE Finland faces I guess. CZE has kind of a home crowd and SWE in general is tougher match up for Finland than CZE, although Finland lost to CZE in a practice game not long ago, but Finland got a lot more players since then. Main thing was not to face RUS and maintain the home (stadium) advantage so looks good.

Any news on Ikonen? Losing him at this stage would be a huge, huge deal. Meh.

Just watched the game and didn't even see what happened to him there.

Step 2: Should three or more teams still remain tied in points then the better goal difference in the direct games amongst the tied teams will be decisive.

Czechs win by 2 or more goals -> Finland-Sweden semi final
Czechs win by 1, tie or lose -> Finland-Czech Republic semi final
