Olympics: Team Canada 2018 Roster discussion

Canada has to step up producing left shot defensemen.

They'll be down to only Keith who's really super elite and. The others are pretty average by previous standards. They don't got much prospects coming up either, I suppose Rielly has potential. Lots of righty's though. Think the Golden Generation of defensemen is done for now. Where's the next Niedermayer and Pronger?!
 
I was just about to post something to that effect from another site.

but yes, the era of NHL Olympics looks to be officially over.

We'll have to scan 4th line AHLers, CIS or NCAA and possibly even senior leagues to come up with projected rosters.

for my 1st line LW I'll take Buddy Hammelthorp from the Flin Flon Beavers. I hear he has a backhander that is Crosby-esque.

I'd think the individual federations would certainly see more revenue if they had NHL players in the tournaments. I don't mean from the IOC...but from sponsorship and other revenue opportunities.

On a separate note, has anyone seen anything (I guess, media-wise) re how much the IOC benefits from NHL players being there. I'm sure for that particular event, it's better - but I'm wondering how impacts the bottom line.
 
Team Canada at the 2018 Olympics?

What do you think Team Canada will look like at the 2018 Olympics. If NHL players are even allowed to go.

My Predictions:

Line 1: Tavares, Crosby, Stamkos
Line 2: Benn, Seguin, Giroux
Line 3: Perry, Toews, Getzlaf
Line 4: McDavid, Bergeron, Johansen

Extra Forwards: Hall, Carter.

Defence 1: Pietrangelo, Doughty
Defence 2: Letang, Subban
Defence 3: Burns, Weber

Extra Defence: Reilly, Ekblad.

Goalies: Holtby, Price, Crawford. HM: Elliott

Captain: Crosby
Alternate: Doughty
Alternate: Getzlaf
 
The top-6 looks about right, but I'd expect to see McDavid in a top-6 role by that time. I would be a little surprised if Getzlaf was still at a Team Canada level, and Hall could pass Perry by then.
 
Canada takes 6 right handed d? Not a chance. Vlasic, Keith and someone else will be in. Subban didn't make the team last time because he was a righty
 
Perry & Getz Carter shouldn't be on team Canada in 2 years.

(To a lesser extent) Giroux & RyJo won't make cut either.
 
I can guarantee you Canada won't be taking 7 right-shooting defensemen.

Call me crazy, but this is one of the reasons I think Karl Alzner might get some love as the final D.

L shot, and about as good defensively as you can get.
