1) What's the original source (not the other forum, the "real" source) and is it credible?

2) Where do the big non-player expense discrepancies come from in the KHL? I was about to suggest some teams cut on travel etc but I noticed Yaroslavl is 2nd on your list. (that's not a joke, I really am wondering).

I didn't really understand your second question.

To question one, to find sources for these numbers I think you must either try to search the web to find some news reporter that has posted it in some sports magazine or such, or contact each club in that specific league or contact the national ice hockey association that holds that information.

I have checked some leagues and most of it seems to be correct. Both Swedish and Finnish leagues are correct from season 2011/12, as I've seen them posted in newspapers. The NLA had some numbers on their official website, and all of those were correct for season 2011/12. For the KHL I only found an old list from the start of the league, and it seems like most of the teams are from that season. The newer teams I think have posted their budgets somewhere and then been added later on. The rest I have not checked.

You seem to have no trust in what you read on this forum. Many people lie to you before? :)

I did not make the list, but I trust it. It seems to be true, but somewhat outdated on some leagues and teams. And I can't see why the first person would make up a fake list? Especially when most of it has source to prove it's true.

One of the requirments here is sources for your data, thats why he asked. Anybody can make a list and say its real.

Are these numbers just players salaries or all expenses?

It's not my list. The Swedish, Finnish and Swiss teams are total budgets and seem to be correct.

The Finnish and Swiss teams total budgets are often(always?) posted on their leagues official website.

I don't really speak Finnish but here is SM-liiga for last season.

http://www.sm-liiga.fi/arkisto/uutiset/karpat-suurimmalla-budjetilla-uuteen-kauteen.html

For NLA and NLB it shows some of the teams here if you click their names.

http://www.nationalleague.ch/NL/clubs/de/sierre.php

I think this link says Lausannes budget.

http://www.eishockey.ch/Visp+deklassiert+Lausanne+5+1/483591/detail.htm

Here is some list for KHL I found from first season I think.

http://www.dinamoriga.eu/en/news/view/season-budgets-of-khl-clubs-revealed

I could only find this for now, it's an old list for Elitserien.

http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/hockey/sverige/elitserien/article10417458.ab

Now I don't have time to search google any more. And please stop calling it my list, it's very annoying.

Please don't be so aggressive. If you don't want feedback on the list (I know, it's not YOUR list), don't post it.

The bolded is what I asked for. You didn't provide it in your first post. The reason I asked is because there is a difference between official (league-provided) numbers and estimated numbers from a third party, similar to Forbes numbers for NHL teams.

As for my second question, for Salavat Yulaev the total budget is $48 million, including $17 for player salaries. So that's $31 million for other operating expenses. Compare that to $13.7 million for Traktor (or any other team at the bottom on the chart). Presumably that $13.7 includes at least a couple million for salaries, and say $10 million for other operating expenses. My question was: how do you explain the gap between $10 million and $31 million?

Presumably, if you post those numbers, it's because you think they may be useful. I agree with you, but I can't use them if I don't understand them. Are all these numbers apples-to-apples? Answering the 10 vs 31 question would provide part of the answer.

I am not trying to be aggressive but of course I do get annoyed when people tell me to explain why some numbers are this big or why they are so small. How would I know?

Or tell me to find reliable sources for each and every team on the list. I think I did enough just by sitting down for many hours just to convert all budget numbers into Euro and calculating the average budget by league and put them up in that correct order.

If you assume or suspect that some of those numbers are wrong, please contact the team or search the internet or leagues website for information so I can correct it. It would help out a lot.

I hope I provided some good links.

If anyone finds newer numbers I would be glad to find out so we can update this list.

For what it may be worth (if you end up comparing with NHL), people need to understand that some European leagues have low cost because of proximity. Lets say that DEL can be visited by plane in about 2.5 hours.
