Charlie Jacobs might have gone back to bed after waking to see this on the front page of the Globe.

Those of us who go the Garden often are well aware of the homeless problems around North Station and it has been like that for decades. North Station is complicated as Delaware North operates it for the MBTA.

MOD WARNING - ATTACKS ON THE HOMELESS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED

TD Garden security accused of abuse against homeless

In a statement, a TD Garden spokeswoman said that “providing a safe and secure environment throughout the building and North Station is our top priority.”

As someone who has worked security and for Allied, there is no excuse as to why this guy wasn't fired and arrested immediately. Some people cannot handle that line of work. Being diplomatic and not a straight up punk is totally foreign to them.

I would think they have to make sure the story is correct before taking such action.

Many homeless people, aren't. One in particular nearby holds a sign in the parking lot median by the local Home Depot every day. She has a much nicer apartment than I do.

I agree with you, I know that some crazies do the homeless thing for a living.. But it doesn't give anyone the rite to beat a person down for sitting on a bench with a cardboard sign.

been shook down a few times myself at intersection by the people that clean you windshield with dry squeegies. Also have to be careful on the Metro. Plenty of nice homeless people, but you still have to look out, poverty and desperation everywhere.

The incident happened on the 22nd and was on video. And yet only after the Globe asked questions did anyone lift a finger. I've known guards who've been fired for far less in a matter of days with no video proof involved. This sounds like someone hoping something would blow over.

An un-named hockey team owner was just quoted:

"Look, operating a mediocre hockey team is complicated business. There are certain aspects of gouging the public for mediocre food, watery beer, and a sub-par product on the ice that people don't understand. We have a strict policy of overpromising and underdelivering and we all know that sewing unrealistic expectations is inherently a good thing -- however, we do realize there is a line.

For example, I told a whopper earlier this season regarding post season success! He he...... what a beauty!

At the same time, those people who expect that we can run an operation of this mediocrity without on occasion having to have our staff beat the ever living **** out of a few homeless people are just out of touch with reality. For the record we NEVER said we won't beat the people who frequent the areas surrounding our arena.

Now, with that said, who's ready for playoff hockey and a $9 hot dog?"

If that's the case yes he should be fired.

A (deceased) friend and former employee of mine went to work for Allied at the Garden. He was told to check everyone's bag(s) no exceptions. Several years ago Nicole Richie was there for an event and when he asked to look into her handbag she refused to hand it over. Don't know if she relented or if he grabbed the bag but: He (always had a cop mentality, father was a cop) took the bag and shook it upside down on a counter spilling out the contents to her embarrassment. She complained to his supervisor and he was fired.
Obviously, if you're a celebrity you can make/break the rules. If you're on the lower rungs of society you're viewed differently. People like the guy I mentioned wouldn't have beaten a homeless person but he over exceeded any authority he thought that he had and took his orders to the extreme with the wrong "type" of person.
Anyway, I got off topic but the bottom line is that these companies hire police officer wanna-bee's and much of the time, since they interact with the actual police so much they forget that they are not. They sometimes take out their aggressions on those who they think are powerless to defend themselves and seem to have no voice to fight back physically or legally.
As a business owner and one that wishes no ill will on another business, I hope that they have to pay for their constant abuse (if true).
On the other hand, there are young "homeless" that will stand in your way and will block someones path. That is the kind of person that needs to be set straight if necessary.

What an effin disgrace. Allied should be relieved immediately of this contract and both Boston and Transit police should be holding internal investigations. What kind of ******* society are we living in?

TD is attracting the homeless though. I walk from TD every day, and over the last half year there are more and more homeless asking for money. Some are even half blocking the walk ways with signs.

I don't agree in any abuse, but I can understand the concern for those at TD with all the new buildings and condos they are putting up

My personal ranked order of TD Garden annoyance:
1) Guy with "Jesus saves, you're going to hell" sign and pamphlets.
2) "Gottaticketneedaticket?" guys outside the Garden.
3) Children with two hands, and yet somehow THREE giant foam bear claws.
...
...
...
999) Homeless people sitting with signs and a can and not making much noise.

Disgusted that it took so long for this incident to be brought to light. I'm assuming that the reporting is accurate and that there's a video that's been out there since December.

Security at the Garden is kabuki theater: all show, no substance. Its main purpose is to keep people from buying $1 bottles of water from McD's and taking it into the Garden. Given the number of Jack Daniels bottles on the balcony ground I often see leaving the Garden, they're not even good at that.

The Globe follows up

Security guards at TD Garden can no longer eject homeless

Private security guards who patrol TD Garden have been told they can no longer eject homeless people from North Station commuter rail platforms and waiting areas that are surrounded by the sports complex, after one of the guards was charged with beating a disabled homeless man with his own cane, transit officials said Thursday.

Beginning Monday, MBTA Transit Police will also expand their patrol coverage of the station, said MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo, who added that the guidelines were finalized during a phone call Thursday between the MBTA general manager, Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan, and TD Garden president Amy Latimer.

“All parties agreed that steps need to be taken to maintain a safe environment for the public,†Pesaturo said in a prepared statement.

My Chicago friend was flabbergasted at how weak TD Garden security is compared to the United Center. In Chicago she has to dump her purse every game.

Security at the United Center consists of off duty Chicago police.
