Around $5M free cap space. Kucherov unsigned. Callahan is skating.

the only significance this thread will have is a place for everyone to discuss the remaining cap room for Kuch

anyways, solid signing.... weird that it took this long to agree on such a small salary

Great deal for Nesterov. I'm excited to have him back. I'm curious who between him and Wiz gets that #7 spot. As for all the Kucherov comments it's just a matter of time. Nesterov and Kucherov are close friends, right down to training together in the offseason. Lightning fans have known since the end of July once Killorn and Namestnikov signed that these final two deals were going to take until the last minute to get done.

I bet it was more a matter of term.

Tampa I doubt wanted to do only 1 year, but Nesterov probably wanted more money if he was signing on for long. Would only go this cheap, if it was short term.
Pure speculation, of course.

Hes ok as a bottom pairing guy. Still has work to do but he has flashes of being a decent player.

Most of those flashes came in 2014/2015. There was a severe regression last year. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't actually make our roster for a while this year. He has a lot of work to do. (Then again, his pattern seems to be good year, bad year, good year, bad year.)

Wrong Nikita.

I don't know, Yzerman has amazed me before, but I just don't see how they get Kucherov to sign for less than $6 million. They just don't have room.

You're a bit late on the Nikita joke.

And if we were going to sign Kuch for under $6M, he would be signed already. It's a foregone conclusion that he's going to get slightly south to what his demands are (Tarasenko money).

Agreed. It's just a question of how Yzerman makes it happen. I can't see us going into the season without Nikita Kucherov, rather than, say, with Nikita Kucherov and without Eric Condra.

I can't believe something's not in the works.
