Out of curiosity, can Goncalves play center?

If so, might be an interesting claim target for the Devils. They could use a 3C that might be able to produce as Haula (when healthy) and Dowling have just been black holes production wise.

Liked him as a prospect but unfortunately he seems to be kind of a tweener. Too good for the AHL but provides little that “pops” at the NHL level. Still only 23 so maybe he can still carve out a niche as a 4th liner someday like Koepke or Chaffee but picking him off waivers and expecting him to come in and be a legit third line option is asking way too much.

IIRC he already passed thru waivers earlier this season and he’s shown little at the NHL level to make one think he’s suddenly going to garner more interest at this point. I just think his physical traits are kinda limited at the highest level right now.

Goncalves can play, I would like to see him get claimed just for a fresh start. There's just no room for him in TB right now, but a team looking for some extra skill should take a shot and see what he can do outside of a checking role. I see him having an NHL career even if it takes awhile to get there. In some ways he reminds me of Verhaeghe's days in TB. If he can add a little bit more power and explosiveness to his game, could turn out nicely. Pretty smart player too.

It’s a Portuguese name. The C in Goncalves is pronounced like an S. Think of Gonzaga….Gon…Solves
