$8.5x7 with no income tax would still be less than 8x8 in NC. Unless he really didn't want to stay there or really wants to be in TB, I don't see how his AAV would be anything under $8.5M.

I think $8.5-9 is way more likely than $7.5, but that's just me.

If we give up the 3rd and we can’t sign him we gave up an asset for nothing

I can't imagine JBB making this trade without some kind of handshake deal in place. I know the Jeannot trade lowered expectations of him some, but he hasm't shown he's THIS incompetent yet...

This has been my fear the whole time.

Whatever the reason, JBB really likes Guentzel from the not so subtle nuggets being dropped in the media. I wouldn't be surprised to see an outrageous contract, while Stamkos eats scraps from the table.

I really hope we bring Stammer back, but I think this signals he's not a priority and it'll be unlikely to happen, but we'll see.

Is it still possible for you guys to keep Stammer if Jake signs 7.5?
It would be possible to keep Stammer even if Jake signs for 8.5 or 9.5.
...but would it be in the best interests of the team moving forward? Depends on the cap hit

star UFA’s make 11 mill a year nowadays. jake is a better playoff player than most of those players so i’m more than happy even if it’s 9 mill

He will be 30 by the time the season starts. Meaning, we'll have 3 years until this fanbase bitches about his age coming off a 40 goal season and why it's time to move him because he's too old.

I doubt we sign for less then 8.5
I imagine so. He's a more proven Hagel so I'd expect him to fall in the ~8-9M range.

If that was the case, why wouldn't Guentzel just wait until Tomorrow to see what comes in? It doesn't factually change anything aside from giving up a 3rd for 24 hours with no other benefit aside from 24 hours.
Maybe he wants to be a Lightning cup winner in the future. If we sign 7.75x7 and Stamkos (6x2 short term), longterm 4.75x7 / 4.5x 8. We could possibly trade sheary or perbix to creare around 2 million to bring in some bottom 6 grit and hustle. I would be interested in seeing what goodrow 50% retained for sheary would cost.
