"Settling the score" by fighting someone once and maybe landing a glancing blow doesn't really settle the score IMO. The hockey code is kind of shit for settling scores. What, we hold each other for 20 seconds, grapple a bit and fall to the ice and I'm even for injuring someone? f*** that, I believe in eye for an eye. Light people up and send people to the IR.
Which still settles nothing.

So, Clifford goes up to Hall and knocks his block off last night. Cool.

Does that prevent teams from taking runs at Leafs players in the future?

Of course it doesn't.

This notion of vigilante justice & physical deterrents is such an archaic, old timer thing that isn't present in today's NHL. If a guy wants to tune you up, he will, and he won't care who else is on your team because he knows he will be protected by the instigator rule.

At what point do we stop supporting this? Not the Leafs.... But the rest... Stop filling other arenas. Stop paying for SN and TSN, that's what streams are for.... Support the Leafs but nothing else.

You light people up until the league starts calling it fairly. If the league punishes appropriately then the players don't need to take it into their own hands.

Just get Keefe and Dubas to say at their next presser that they want to thank DoPS for setting a precedent, and that every player on our team has been briefed to do that to every opponent from now on - and they will send in the Hall tape prior to each infraction.
Yet on another thread you implied winning was more important than retaliating ??? WTF you are literally taking out of both sides of your mouth??? Do you agree retaliation is required or do you just want to win?? Can't have it both ways??

The real crime in the Bruin game does involve Taylor Hall. He was the guy Dubas passed on at the trading deadline last season. Instead he gave away a number one pick for Foligno. He's playing on the Bruin's FOURTH line. That's the CRIME. Dubas should have been fined making that move.

Pundits and experts saying it was a mild tap or grab. Here is Lyubushkin's head reaction to the punch. That's the top of his helmet we are looking at. His head is attached to it.

Bruins player committing the offence.

Leafs player is the victim.

Let's be honest. No suspension was ever coming on this. One rulebook for them, another for us.

LOL. That's just not going to happen - vigilante justice in the NHL has been a thing forever, and it hasn't changed a damn thing about how the game is officiated.
It's a pipe dream to think that all of a sudden, things will change because more players are willing to get suspended. It won't.

This generation of hockey fans has survived two NHL lockouts. Both times, we swore how we'd never come back and support a league that cared so little about fans and so much about money.

Then, when the CBA was ratified and the games started up again, we filled rinks in record numbers and smashed attendance records.

In short - it'll never happen.

Ryan Reaves didn't prevent players from taking runs at Vegas or Rangers players.
Tom Wilson didn't prevent players from taking runs at Capitals players.
Kyle Clifford and his 80+ career fights didn't stop Hall from sucker punching Lyubushkin.

Deterrents. Don't. Work.
Well if they don't work (which they do) why would pretty much every team, every year, have at least one one their team?

Hey it might not settle everything all the time, but depending on who it is (oppositions tough guy) you think twice and sometimes things probably don't even come down to that boiling point.

Just like if you were a small guy sitting in a bar with the biggest bugger in the bar. Pretty sure you feel safer and wouldn't have to sit with your back to the wall.

Lets face it,..they say Hall never does that stuff, well maybe he felt tougher because no-one he cared about was going to retaliate on him, even though he was probably shocked LYB went down. You sure didn't see Taylor looking over his shoulder ready to throw another one. Wonder why?

He is Chairman of the NHL Board of Governors, you don't get nominated and voted in for that role if you don't have considerable influence.

Exactly, he didn't use his one vote to vote himself in as the chairman...

Man, when I played hockey, or any sport for that matter, Taylor Hall wouldn't have left this game without a broken ear drum and a concussion. An eye for an eye is the only way to maintain accountability. You wanna sucker punch our guy? Be prepared to eat the same lunch you just served. Bunch of beta cucks this team is. This is why we don't stand a chance in the playoffs, and lose to poorly skilled teams like Montreal. At least they stand up for each other.

Gotta say, when I watched it happen, I wondered if there'd be a suspension or not. At no point was I of the mind that that's a suspension for sure. I'm just not that surprised by it. Could have been, yes, also though, maybe not.

Match penalty, could have seen that too. Thought 2m was weak more then I think no suspension is weak.

Gotta say no to any vigilante justice too, this season at least. Last thing we need is a fired up Bruins team, they'll put us through the boards. I'd go Gordie Howe style here, take a number and let it simmer. Wait until next year in October or something.

You may be right, but somebody like that offers up 2 options:

1) getting someone from their side so you aren't disadvantaged in the playoffs
Or
2) doing it first

It's hilarious that you've created this narrative in your head that stuff actually works, but the only thing you can provide to back it up is theoreticals.

The Anaheim Mighty Ducks are 2nd in the league in fighting majors this year - they have plenty of guys who will fill your face in.

That didn't stop Gadjovich a few days ago from trying to take liberties. Or Jeannot. Or Boroweicki. Or Johnson. All in the past 2 weeks.

What a deterrent. I sure bet those teams thought twice before going after some of their guys :)

Not only did the Bruins take a punt on the same Foligno that Dubas tried to sign, but they gave him term.

It's okay to not criticize Kyle every waking minute of the day - try it sometime

Leafs don’t stand up for each other, no one is willing to pushback. Where was clifford yesterday? Or maybe it’s keefe with his no fight shenanigans? First round exit is the only way for this team unless they man up and support each other.

Not sure why anyone would even worry if a borderline player like Kyle Clifford grew a set and took out either Marchand or Pastrnak for retribution. He really doesn't belong on the ice anyway and there is no need for physically capable players to mirror the passiveness of much of the fanbase and the ownership. So what if he gets a suspension. Many fans are just getting back what they deserve for turning on their own, like they did with Domi, Kadri, etc. Deterrent? Who cares? I know which posters here I would want on my side in a war and which ones can stay home with the women and children.

How does punching guys in the face lead to more offense? (Genuine question, because over the past few seasons their failures in the playoffs have come down to not being able to break teams down when it mattered).

A 5 minute Bruins powerplay with only 4D, giving them a direct route right back into the game, really sends a message that.............. what, exactly? Teams can get under our skin?

It's ice hockey, not a war. Relax with your hyperbole. They showed last night that they can dish it out physically, and not let the other team get under their skin.
