A match penalty would have been an automatic review for a suspension and probably a hearing as well but DoPS don't give a f***. They double downed on the refs missing the call.

I am actually surprised he even got a 5K fine...I thought it wouldn't even be that. I was hopeful of a one game penalty but I know this league too well. If Bunting did this though, you can bet he was getting suspended.
$2k for diving , $5 k for concussing and knocking our top pairing dman out of the game... yep sounds like NHL logic to me.

How tf is Jacobs running the show when he CLEARLY has a conflict of interest by being the owner of the Bruins? Seems pretty ****ing dirty by the league. I want Bettman and him gone asap this league is unacceptable in how it is run. Literally every fan base has gripes, even the Bruins for some reason lol

I don't like face punchers in the lineup but at this point in time, there is no doubt that Clifford is better than Simmonds. He can at least skate and keep up with the play.

As much as we all wanted blood, 2 points were also on the line and keep in mind that the Leafs were playing with just 4D and their 4th/5th string goalie in net. With that kind of handicap, a 6-1 lead feels like a 6-5 kind of game so it made sense that no one on our team tried to do anything stupid.

Let's be honest, if the Leafs retaliated at all, they were going to get suspended. This league will not let the Leafs get away with it even after letting Boston get away with it.

Exactly.

Replace Hall with Debrusk, & Lyubushkin's skull with Marleau's head, and what you're left with is a raging desire for revenge that ends up with Kadri getting suspended.

Comical how many wanted us to go down the same route yesterday.

It lets your players play bigger.

Hyman was one of our bigger players, and Edler still went after him last year with his knee-on-knee.

Guess what? Simmonds settled the score. Did that REALLY make things better for our bigger players?

Spoiler alert:
No

Maybe Hall will be the one to get punched next game that Boston is in town.

We will get a good idea tomorrow on just how deeply this team concerns themselves with the notion of retribution.

Should pave the way solidly for what to expect when we meet Boston again.

Yeah, let's just continue to f*** them on the ice when the puck is in play. As much as I want players to go for blood when shit like this happens, I know that it will only result in the Leafs getting the short hand of the stick.

Doing something stupid could have easily led us to blowing a 6-1 lead despite controlling the game the entire way.

I am praying that Boston ends up playing Florida in the playoffs. That team is just as sneakily dirty as the Bruins. Break each other in half.

There are other solutions. No need to do anything dirty.

Back in the day players would just take a number. I hope our guys have the balls to do that before the playoffs. This is a perfect chance for them to show they’re not pushovers.

I hope that the last game of the season has no weight re: playoff opponent determination.

That way the leafs can ignore the score and just make Halls game annoying. Not dirty in any way. Just every shift he’s on there should be leafs that take every chance to lay into him clean. Ignore the puck. Get him looking over his shoulder.

That shows him, the Bruins and all other teams that the Leafs are a team of guys that will stand up for each other. Not tough. But not pushovers.

Make opponents think for a second before they do something stupid like Hall did.

Yep, exactly.

And maybe if we weren't playing with 4D, Keefe loosens the reigns a bit and lets them goon it up a bit in between the whistles. Who knows.

But I have no problems with how they handled things last night - I'm disappointed the narrative today is about how Hall didn't get suspended, and not that the Leafs sent their own message last night: we won't be bullied or pushed over, and f*** whatever you wnat to do between whistles.

1) They showed last night they aren't pushovers - Hall incident aside, they gave as good as they got physically & showed you can't get under their skin

2) Didn't we "make opponents think twice" when Simmonds went after Edler last year after the Hyman incident? Don't we "make opponents think twice" when we dress a guy who has over 80 career fights.

Once again, these notions of "making opponents think twice" is utter & complete archaic nonsense. NONE of it matters! If Taylor Hall wants to sucker punch you, he's not thinking about these things before he does it. No one in the NHL is. These deterrents don't work.

I am astonished by this. This is shocking. Leafs need to appeal this.

It really isn't that serious.

Pacioretty had an arguably stronger sucker punch earlier this month, that didn't even net him a fine. By comparison, Hall's fine is at least substantial as it gives him a crecord

That’s not what taking a number means lol, you are basically just saying to play hockey against him. Hockey played the right way is what you described.

Taking a number means to fook him up next time we play them which we should. I’m all for a 2 min penalty and 5k fine for simmonds to punch hall the same way he punched Bush. Hell if Bush is back he can do it himself.

The Leafs dressed a guy last night that has over 80 career fights.
This idiotic, archaic notion that having a face puncher in the lineup, somehow acts as a deterrent, is stupid.
Even stupider, is the idea that retaliating is actually worth a damn thing. It isn't.
Ask Lyubushkin's skull how effective that deterrent was last night.
Ya I guess when Chara ever went up in anyones face that he wasn't a deterrent. There have been many times when a tough guy goes into a shat disturbers face and eventually nothing happens. Bet you can't guess why?

If you wanted to sucker Marchand and you saw Chara coming at you, you don’t think that would make you think twice?

Getting fed by someone bigger than you always is a factor. This is a contact sport.

Wow. You’re quite certain lol

I’ve heard many smaller/peaceful players talk about feeling bigger when they’ve got guys on their bench that they know have their backs.

I don’t think guys like Marner and Tavares think that way enough.

Call it archaic all you want but when the playoffs get here one of the things opponents will use to beat the leafs is to push them around.

All I’m hoping for is for the leafs to do things to discourage that. Fearing power plays isn’t gonna do it in the playoffs. We know that

Call it what you want. When I played and someone did something dirty our whole team took the number and made that guys game very uncomfortable. If that’s playing hockey the right way to you, fine. Then they should play it the right way more often. They don’t.

That’s all I’m saying. Show opponents we’re not easy pushovers. That’s necessary come playoff time.

What’s the difference between this and what Domi did to Scott Niedermayer?

What’s the difference between this and what Domi did to Scott Niedermayer?
Niedermayer was real star player, Hall isn't.
Niedermayer was Olympic gold medalist more than once, Hall isn't.
Niedermayer was Stanley Cup championship, Hall? Nah...
That's it.

Parros is pathetic. God i wish this team had orr and McLaren. They would have cracked some skulls the next time the leafs played those worthless subhumans.

"Settling the score" by fighting someone once and maybe landing a glancing blow doesn't really settle the score IMO. The hockey code is kind of shit for settling scores. What, we hold each other for 20 seconds, grapple a bit and fall to the ice and I'm even for injuring someone? f*** that, I believe in eye for an eye. Light people up and send people to the IR.

Ryan Reaves didn't prevent players from taking runs at Vegas or Rangers players.
Tom Wilson didn't prevent players from taking runs at Capitals players.
Kyle Clifford and his 80+ career fights didn't stop Hall from sucker punching Lyubushkin.

Deterrents. Don't. Work.
