Confirmed with Link: Taylor Hall receives 5k fine for sucker punch on Lyubushkin

The issue, as I understand it, is his company owns the concession rights on a bunch of the poorer franchises in the league. Many of these owners wouldn't have been able to buy and fund their teams, except for Jacob's company financing them getting going, in exchange for those rights. As a result, he wields a ton of power over those teams - which are, of course, mostly in the sun belt - enough to control their vote, so he completely controls Bettman's fate.

Basically, the league is in his pocket, and he's not reluctant to leverage that.

Or at least that's my understanding.

Wilson last season got the whole rangers organisation scrambled. Even their gm was fired etc. Its amazing how WE dont address the issue even harder. The game aint changed. If a team has a wilson, reaves or deslauriels, people dont do this. Simmonds bunting and lyub are a start with muzzin and clifford. But NOT ENOUGH PERIOD. THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING.

If Matthews had sucker punched, if KADRI would have, there wouldn’t have been any suspensions.

This is an important point. Don't bother.

$5k fine, sure, whatever, no sense guessing at this stuff with the NHL. Move on, we got them were it counts last night. Hopefully Luby is good to go.
 
Maybe we should ask a league where they are known for treating players poorly what their opinion is on head shots are.... NFL care to comment? The freaking NFL has a no head contact rule, no exceptions and they play on grass and the NHL has a Golly Shucks Okely Dokely WTF attitude?

Maybe Hall will be the one to get punched next game that Boston is in town.
 
Main boards are a joke.

Most of the posters there downplaying this and spewing anti Leaf drivel would be singing a very different tune if Taylor Hall injured one of their teams' players with a sucker punch while receiving virtually no disciplinary action from the league.

Should have been an automatic match penalty for starters, that's straight up just neglecting the rulebook.

The Leafs dressed a guy last night that has over 80 career fights.
This idiotic, archaic notion that having a face puncher in the lineup, somehow acts as a deterrent, is stupid.
Even stupider, is the idea that retaliating is actually worth a damn thing. It isn't.
Ask Lyubushkin's skull how effective that deterrent was last night.

Interesting that the same people who fundamentally believe in the importance of cracking down on unnecessary violence in the game, have now gone absolutely quiet, or completely changed their tune

I wish I could say I’m surprised. It’s proven the DOPS has a bias against the Leafs and it will be even worse come playoff time. I’m not sure what the best move for the Leafs is to do moving forward. Taking it on the chin from the DOPS doesn’t seem to be working (pun intended).

I don't like face punchers in the lineup but at this point in time, there is no doubt that Clifford is better than Simmonds. He can at least skate and keep up with the play.

As much as we all wanted blood, 2 points were also on the line and keep in mind that the Leafs were playing with just 4D and their 4th/5th string goalie in net. With that kind of handicap, a 6-1 lead feels like a 6-5 kind of game so it made sense that no one on our team tried to do anything stupid.

Let's be honest, if the Leafs retaliated at all, they were going to get suspended. This league will not let the Leafs get away with it even after letting Boston get away with it.

A match penalty would have been an automatic review for a suspension and probably a hearing as well but DoPS don't give a f***. They double downed on the refs missing the call.

I am actually surprised he even got a 5K fine...I thought it wouldn't even be that. I was hopeful of a one game penalty but I know this league too well. If Bunting did this though, you can bet he was getting suspended.
