Our mods are loving this thread as they are huge Leaf fans as well.

I have no idea who the utility guy would be, if they decide to go that route though I'm sure they'll find the right guy. It makes a ton of sense to me, as diceman pointed out there's PP and PK time as well so not much time left over for a 4th line anyway. A few extra shifts for the big boys, fill the rest with whatever and put the cap space to better use elsewhere.

Interesting how much Tavares spoke on the positive impact Babs had on his decision. He said he was "tremendous" during the presentation and he felt comfortable with their relationship. Also said a Babcock got him "excited" about his role. I think people focus on the x and o's a bit too much with Babs, you have to take it in totality, and once again he has proved he can motivate and inspire people....never discount that, for my money as an important a role as any for a head coach.

Alright now I just have to make this happen. Tavares will look good in that there uniform. Big C after preseason I assume.

We have Kadri and Rielly locked in for 9.5 for the next 4 seasons, a capable top 10 goalie in Andersen for 5m and some decent depth in Zaitsev brown and hyman making 9m combined. That’s about 60m in the meat and potatoes of the lineup.
Lots of young wingers (Johnsson, grundstrom, korshkov bracco) and D-Men(Liljegren sandin on elcs to come up over the next few years as well.
If they play their cards right they can add one more mid level contract without sacrificing any core players (big 3, jt, Rielly, Kadri)

Thanks for the lengthy explanation. :) Assuming your D holds up I would imagine a cup window will open for you guys as early as next year. I hope you are able to surround your core with the right players. Congrats again!

I just dont think that he should be captain for the Leafs just because he was C for the Isles. However, they should really consider doing this if possible :)

what's good is that Shanny has been through the exact same situation with Yzerman in Detroit.

Both those guys were the captains of the team. Maybe there can be a mutual captaincy inside the room for JT and Matthews.

I'd have to guess though, Tavares will get the C on the sweater. He can mentor and guide Matthews through the next few years.

Yeah, I'm alright with that too. I figured they might give it to JT for a year or 2 but that would involve 'taking it away' from Tavares which might leave a bad taste. Just hard to fathom having captain material without giving the C. Can we institute an A+?
