Getting Tavares has essentially eliminated the Matthews being targeted and shutdown gameplan.

Now you try that and boom Tavares and others will crush you.

Having three centers of this quality is something you dream of when thinking about best case scenario.

Remember when Sundin left and how long we looked so weak at C? Crazy to think we have essentially three star C's if you put it into perspective of comparing them to others who play on those lines.

Kadri is going to be the best 3rd line center in the league and we have enough talent to put around him to have 3 great scoring lines.

Tavares changes the entire dynamics of our offense and limits the opposing teams ability to shut us down.

Wonder if they employ an outscore us if you can game plan most nights or still go with the defense first mentality.

If the latter, it will be a little tricky with the mins to Matthews and Tavares.

This is going to make for fun times. What an incredible add to the team. With Lou and Dubas being involved in this the cone of silence on all of this was pretty nuts. But glad at the end of the day that Tavares decided that he wanted to win and wanted to win here. Honestly if the Islanders weren't such a brutal organization for all those years it might have been near impossible to pull him out.

In terms of the Nylander situation, not worried. Besides offer sheets being a legend at this point, what some other fanbases forget is that the player has to sign. This is a team that is going to be scary good next year and for years to come. Nylander like anyone else wants to win. I don't see him ducking out to go somewhere else. They'll get his deal done, get things done with Matthews/Marner and continue putting this team together.

Yeah, huge kudos to Dubas and the rest of the management group for getting this done. It's one thing to get the opportunity but something else to close the deal.

Holy crap, them Islanders fans are going next level. I understand being upset you didn’t get to trade him for a few assets but they are going hard after his fiancé, calling him a sociopath and seem to think Lou’s going to offersheet Matthews.

****ing whackadoos over there.
As if this fanbase wouldn't surpass that if Matthews decided to bolt to arizona in 7-8 years.

In the matthews lottery i promised my nephew 250$ if we win it! We won it, the other day i promised him 100$ if tavares signs with us and he did!!! Hes a lucky charm!!! Just have to givr him money tho lol
What are you willing to offer him for the cup?????

Wow you guys must be stoked. :) Congrats. An Oiler fan coming over here to ask about cap implications. You guys have a talented young forward group already, I was curious what your cap situation is looking like in a couple of years? I am just not super familiar with your current contracts.

Congrats again!

It's about time we surrounded Hyman with some talent

Another Oilers fan dropping in to say congrats. Your forward group is beastly now. Fully hoping you guys can make it out of the first round this year and go far into playoffs as a supporter of Canadian teams. I don't understand the hostility between Leafs and Oilers fans. Our teams play in different conferences and should only meet in the Finals (which would be an epic series btw). Again, congrats on your shiny new toy and thanks for keeping him out of the West/our division!

That's really being creative and using all your resources...kudos to Dubas.

Yes! His tenure has certainly started off with a bang. And I LOL in the general direction the main boards - players don't want to play for babcock, Lou>>>>>>>>Dubas yadayadayada.

:laugh::laugh:

I'd be mad at the team for letting that happen, not the player.

Players are fully entitled to walk in free agency. They get drafted and have virtually no control where they play for the next 8-9 years. Free agency is their one chance to do what they want.

If a player wants to re-sign, then they will. They'll make counter offers at the very least. Crsoby, Malkin, Kopitar, Bergeron OEL, etc didn't drag it out, they put pen to paper. Tavares didn't, Islanders chose not to trade him, and took the risk, and it backfired. Not like they were holding onto him for a Cup run either.

as it DID happen (with Sundin)
i don't think there was as much vitriol.
and i'm not judging because i thin people do have the right to be mad.

some of it's over the top per usual but whatever.

John Tavares joins Daren Millard to talk about choosing to sign a seven-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
