Just having a friendly debate with a friend. Tavares currently sitting at 25 points in 23 games and playing really well over the last 16 games. So very simple, does he hit 79.5+ points or under 79.5 points ? I think he gets 85-90. Of course this is assuming we play a full 82 game season this year, hopefully no lock downs.

I think he’ll hit 80 points if he stays healthy.

The 'over' sounds like the better bet. I'd expect something barely under - like a point or two - in the event his total falls under that mark. He's been consistently around/close to the PPG mark for his career.

gotta admit that's a very good over/under line. tough call.

I will say that if he was in a traditional 1C role, i'd defeinitely take the over.

actually this reminds me. I should do a minutes distribution comp with last year.

It's his redemption run, dude had a terrible injury and came back with a fire in his belly.

Funny how many people were writing him off at the beginning of the year, saying he was playing terrible, when it was clearly just bad puck luck and he was everywhere.

Makes me wonder how many people on here don't actually watch or understand the game sometimes.

Barring any injury I say he hits the over, but it's a very good line, tough choice.

79.5 is a very specific but interesting measure. I think he has a career year and puts up a 90 point season. I’m basing this on an 82 game season, I think he will be slightly above ppg

Under because he will pace himself to be ready to go hard in the playoffs. I've got to admit I didn't foresee this nice start for him so soon after that horrific injury in the playoffs.

I think he gets 75-80 points this year (35ish goals) so that puts me at the under I guess.

Actually, a pretty good number to set a bet at and Ill be happy to be wrong.

If he stays healthy for all 82 games AND plays with either Willy/Mitch then YES he will be a point per game guy ..

If I was laying actual money, under 79.5 is the smarter bet.

From everything I have heard from him regarding that injury, he seems totally fine with zero lasting effects and is just back to normal.

Which is insane because people have had much less contact and their road to recover is 10 times longer, with lingering effects their entire lives, this man is so lucky and I am very happy for him it went this way.

Brain injuries are crazy.

Id say go the under because he could get injuried or the the season could get reduced etc.

The likelihood of missed games due to injury or covid is great enough that I'd bet the under. I think he hits it if he plays all 82 though.

He's been pretty much right around a ppg for most of his career, I think he's playing peak hockey right now (I hope i'm wrong and he takes his game to another level) but I'm assuming he will probably slow down a bit for a stretch or two during the season. My buddy thinks it's just a heater and that he'll cool off and no chance he hits 80, was just trying to get an idea of what everyone thinks. Plus it'll be fun to look back at, at the end of the year.

All depends on whether there is an Olympics and if JT makes the team, which I'd argue he should be a member of. If there is a Games, and Tavares is a part of the team, I'd expect a bit of a slowdown upon return. The drop-off in adrenaline and the effects of time differences are difficulties that need to be recognized.

I’ll say he falls just short.

If he makes it, it’ll be Willy scoring a lot of goals

I say all 4 of Matthews, nylander, marner and Tavares finish with 75-90 points.

Where Tavares himself will finish is unknown, I'd guess right on 80.
