im running into a problem of the tape at the bottom of my sticks just getting shredded. obviously because its sticking to the flooring and just getting rubbed off.

anyone have any taping tips for me?

*quick edit. some people seem to be buying things you stick on the blade so there is no tape running under the blade. whats the consensus on these?

Yeah...you can buy one of those attack pads or whatever its called or just do the Cole method, as posted.

I do that and it works great. It's obviously cheaper than those pads and you end up saving a lot on tape. You still gotta change it out every so often, if you don't want any wrinkles and bumps on your blade.

You could keep some wax on the bench and wax the hell out of it when your sitting down or use a fibre glass blade.

I do the Erik Cole tape job for ball hockey, but I don't bother with the spray adhesive. Works great, just make sure you use your nail and really push the tape into the blade, or else it'll fall off mid-game.

One trick I have is if you use a lighter, heat gun, hair dryer, or anything that gives off enough heat. Apply the tape then heat it up and the tape's glue will get soften and adhere a bit better when it cools.

Or just really sort of really thoroughly rubbing/pushing the tape to the blade with your fingernail works, tape stays on fine for me this way (for ball hockey). You definitely don't need tape for ball hockey, but I do slightly prefer the Erik Cole tape job to no tape, feel like I get a bit more zip and control on my shots.

I play roller with a puck on painted cement...but ya HATE tape on the bottom of the blade. Usually do normal tape job then rub the stick on cement until all the tape is off and the blade slides smooth(er), so this Erik Cole should solve that problem.

For me it's either the cole method or a normal tape-job but then I cut off the tape on the bottom of the blade.

Well from my experience in inlinehockey (I play with a ball btw.) the tape wears down faster. You can try to heat it a little with a hair dryer and then rub it really hard with a ball/puck.

ill give that a go i guess.

i cant wait to start playing again (dec 18th). its been too long.

thanks folks, i went and picked up that wider tape and did the cole method. its perfect for what ill be doing. hell, if i ever go to ice ill probably still tape it that way.

Forgive my ignorance because I've only played ice hockey and never roller, but it would seem to me that the conditions that exist in ice hockey that make it desirable to tape your stick blade do not exist in roller hockey, so why tape the stick at all?

You are right. There is really no reason to tape your stick in roller. In fact in the limited times I have played roller I found tape actually hinders and does not help. When I play ball or roller hockey I just use my Sherwood 5030 with no tape and let it steadily wear donw until its time to buy a new stick.

I play roller with a puck and notice the difference with and without tape on my stick, so i tape. Puck seems to slide off my blade at different time without the tape (slides off the blade too easily). Biggest difference I notice is that I have a harder time elevating the pucks on the backhand without tape.

Puck - tape

Ball - no tape

Problem with the ball is because it rolls. If there's tape, then the friction will prevent it from rolling so stick handling can become more difficult.

I didn't have any noticeable issues with tape and ball. I'll try without and see what's up

Thought the couple posts above mine were saying taping is useless in roller, but probably talking about playing with a ball. Honestly I haven't played hockey with a ball so have no personal opinion on that.

The issue I noticed was on pavement where the ball doesn't want to slide because of the rough surface. You can still play with tape, but it's easier to drag without.
