This is the part of the season where we know we aren’t making the playoffs, but the team wins 70% of their remaining games!

Tank isn’t over but we will finish in the bottom 12 instead of the bottom 5.

Agreed. It looks like Demko will crush any dreams of a top 5 pick.

I think this team is determined to win when there is no pressure or expectation to accomplish anything. I wouldn't be surprised to see them end up yet again barely missing the playoffs for the sake of pride just so they can pat themselves on the back.

Yet another pulled rug under the feet of most Canucks fans.

won’t be surprised to see this pick moved.
You can never say never, but I highly doubt it…..I’m 99% certain they’ll keep it.

If this draft is as strong as they say it is,the guy they draft may be able crack the roster a year after the draft.

Unless they can attach the 1st to get out of multiple bad contracts, with OEL guaranteed to be one of them, I don’t see this management team trading their 1st.

For another player like OEL? I already expected it. Expectations always lead to disappointment anyways.

Yeah, you are thinking like a normal GM, a normal GM wouldn't be stupid enough to trade a first round in a deep draft for Hronek.

What is the going rate for 25 year top 4 RHD..?

Dallas dropped a 1st for 22 year old Nils Lundqvist, and he's not even a top 4 d man..?

Dallas is a top team that can afford to make that kind of moves, we are pretty much bottom teams despite spending to the cap. It's going to be a few years before we are competing anyways.

Has nothing to do with my question though..

What is the value of a 25 year old top 4.. RHD..?

i felt that question is irrelevant, because we are supposed to be tanking. So i wasn't not answering your question. Who is stupid enough to trade a first round in a deep draft for a 24-25 years old defenseman when they are not expecting to compete.

Who said anything about tanking..?,....dont think I heard JR/PA say anything about that...They said we were retooling.

Newsflash..they are expecting to make the playoffs next season.

Just giving you the heads up.

which they should be tanking. any normal gm would have done so, not ours because they clearly dont want success.

Playoff bound teams have traded 1st rounders

Let's hope we can
Let's hope for our sakes, the fans, that they can compete next season.

Oel will prob get bought out

With this logic, they should've just kept their top 20 and top 40 picks. 🤣

The Hronek strategy has put them on a "make the playoffs next season or bust" path.

The pressure will be at a boiling point next year and the vast majority of fans will not tolerate more excuses (which this organization is full of).

It already was...

Sorry, i mean any normal GM in our shoe wouldn't be stupid enough to trade a first round pick in a deep draft for a 24-25 years old defenseman.

I understand that.

But now management, and by extension ownership, has given even the casual fan a reason to be pissed off next year without playoffs.

They've put more pressure and attention on the team than ever before with a trade like this.

And this is after Benning did the same thing by going all-in on OEL and Garland. And what a disaster that has become. New mangement has been trying to move Garland and OEL since they took over.

Guenther sure wouldve been nice to have.

First Guenther is a false equivalency. Both the pick won't be the same and the player we are getting back are not the same in any respect.

If just want to make claims like this you are just being chicken little.

Who cares about the fans... I mean I know you should and all, but really if you are not actually competing, and I mean really competing not just meaningful games, this team is being completely torn down. Petey will force himself out, then Hughes. These players won't just stick around because in 4 years you have a shinny toy you got in 2023.

All those casual fans will jump back on the bandwagon if the team does well.

There are paths forward to make this team actually good next year with more promise to come. I have no clue if this management team can do it, but saying the can't because Benning is like saying I can't walk because Stephen Hawkins couldn't walk.

Make no mistake, management has put themselves in this position, and I think it was an ok decision. However they do need to be better, and time is running out on that.

First, what the hell is wrong with saying we could've drafted a good young player like Guenther, instead we're stuck with OEL and Garland? Is that wrong, could we not conceivably have done that? Should we not be annoyed about that?

If we had a proper plan why wouldn't they? The av's just won a cup with players that had been around since before a rebuild and these players had no issue, because there was a plan, that was possible, and that obviously worked. I certainly don't think they'll stick around and watch us just miss the playoffs every year with management saying "next year" "next year." Do you?

I don't think it's so much that they can't, more so that this plan so to speak, is very very very hard to do, to bank on what we have and hope that the plethora of holes can be filled in one off season, that we can somehow rid ourselves of these anchor contracts for players that contribute to this losing culture we have, and somehow completely turn the tides over in one year is asinine, it rarely works and it's one of the biggest reason so many of us are sour.

Petey and Hughes aren't the be-all-end-all. People don't seem to realize that.

Guenther wad the consensus next pick at 9th. There is a reasonable assertion to be made that the Canucks would've picked BPA.

You can belittle my opinion if you so choose, but you have done nothing to discredit it as far as I'm concerned.

You're being an apologist and making excuses for a franchise that doesn't deserve it and hasn't earned it. You're part of the retool plan crowd. To each their own, I guess.

It's a plan that failed in the past under the same ownership. I base my opinions on precedent and results. Not on astronomical retool plans leading to cups.

I dont think anyone is part of 'retool' plan crowd..They're just trying to explain to you what the team is doing..and why they are going in that direction.

I know full well what the team is doing (I happen to despise the plan).

And I know full well that certain posters have been supporters and apologists of said plan for years.
