Blender time:

Bunting. Tavares. Marner - keeps Bunting on a line with Marner, while giving Tavares a boost with Marner
Mikheyev. Kerfoot. Nylander - Kerfoot Nylander chemistry with the added speed and 2 way ability of Mikheyev makes this a great 2 way line
Engvall. Kampf. Blackwell - Shut down Line or KISS line
Clifford. Spezza. Simmonds - match the Tampa 4th line in both grit and age.

I expect a loss tonight, in fact I’m going into this game with the mindset of a blowout: 6-3 7-4 style

Really think we should try Marner and Nylander together this game. We’ve exhausted every other option and with auston out this would be a perfect time to see against a potential first round matchup

I have wanted to see all 3 X $11 mil players on different lines and Marner and Nylander paired together with Willie at C.

Teams in the playoffs are going to attempt to shutdown Matthews which helps shutdown Marner and they get a 2 for 1 deal and if successful do the Leafs other players have enough juice to overcome other top teams should AM and MM be nullified.

Willie can't play center it's been tried and it's failed

This is an important game.

Most likely the first round opponent. And most likely we won't have Matthews for it. So what you see is what you get. Need to win so the team can be confident that they can defeat Tampa without Matthews.
For Tampa maybe.

It is impossible to play injury free games in these sire. Never. These teams know they face off face to face in the playoffs, so therefore they check and dirt on a sucka hard from the get go. There are even some players who wil try to hurt on a sucka during exactly these type of games and get an edge for the future. I always, always expect a sucka put his stick on or trying to knee on a mutha during these. See it tonight and get my proof. Some of their players will try to take out some of our key fools. Cause they name joe cause they so cool.

I'll reluctantly agree, but I do hope for a clean affair.

We've got some thugs on our side to take care of the suckas looking to hurt our stars, thankfully.

"Lets setup our lines based on salary"

I'd rather they roll the most optimal lineups.

Any word on the lines? I'd go

Bunting Tavares Marner
Nylander Kerfoot Engvall
Mikheyev Kampf Blackwell
Clifford Spezza Simmonds
This is a perfect line up.

First line is obvious
Second line you're rewarding engvall (deserved) while giving kerfoot and Nylander more looks together (worked well last year in PO)
3rd line has great defense/energy/ pressure/annoyance factor but still has the touch to finish.
4th line, they've been playing great as of late. I like Abruzzezi but he needs time, sprinkling him in here and there is great for his development once he goes back down to the A (like NickRob).

then throw in Austin once he's ready and everyone gets bumped down, with one of Simmonds or Clifford benched unless we need it.

Kase for emergencies only, keep him practicing but he hasn't played in a long time and everyone's got chemistry already, he's a great injury addition or if someone is really bad.

I'm not pinning on THIS team but it shows no load is safe with the Leafs in general and hasn't been for at least a decade
To my memory, save for a few years when Pat Burns was the coach and we had Lefebvre/Macoun/Rouse/Ellett as our top 4, leads have never been safe with the Toronto Maple Leafs

This is a perfect line up.

The Perfect lineup has Matthews in it

The logic of starting Kallgren falls into the line of thinking of not giving Tampa the first hand pre-scout on Soup. It’s an angle that’s been talked about, take it or leave it. Might be an example of the galaxy brain in action. Personally don’t have preference either way other than we should beat Tampa and send a message.

I agree with not giving TB first hand scouting of Jack. Let them wonder if Jack is 100% and no up close look at how he's really doing. I like the whole keeping AM under wraps too. Keep all these assholes wondering and minimal 1st hand looks. Experiment and keep 'em guessing. If TB wins - they get no trophy for beating Toronto without AM and Jack. They lose against us tonight, a seed gets planted "shit couldn't even beat them with their 2 most important players in the line up"
Leafs will likely lose tonight, the interesting thing will be how we lost.

And besides all that, I'm suspicious of TB, I think they've been playing possum for the last month

If they are going to win this one it's going to be one of those games that you have to gut out

No Matthews and Kallgren in net going to need either a BIG night from Marner and Tavares or the depth players like Mikyehev, Kerfoot and Engvall are going to need to step up and bag a couple, a 2 goal night from Mikyehev would be nice tonight

Assuming Matthews will come back at some point, I'd like to keep the lines as intact as possible.

I want to see how Tavares' and Nylander's 2A/2B lines look.

Maybe swap Tavares and Kampf? Or if Abruzzese is playing he could fill in.

marner and nylander together for an extended period would be great to see.

only briefly. probably too late in the season to do it now but i'd like to see them try him for an extended period early next season. there could be a learning curve but it would be worth it if he can develop into a PPG center rather than a PPG winger.
