I don't normally comment on these but this is robbery for Tampa Bay... I'd love to hear your justification as to why you think this would work.

I'm not sure what to make of this deal.
Carolina gives up a young prospect (Saarela) a young defensive prospect (Murphy) that's played 120 games and a guy 1 year removed from being a prospect (Nestrasil) that had 23 pts last year.
To Tampa for a Cap dump (Filppula), a young prospect (Yan) and a player (Dotchin) that will probably never reach the NHL because he's a goon, plus a 1st round pick.

Nestrasil for Filppula and a 1st is something I might do. Very little interest in moving Murphy and absolutely no interest in moving Saarela.

Trading Saarela makes no sense for Carolina but adding a 1st to Filppula makes no sense for Tampa. Filpulla isn't a cap dump. The last 3 years he's had 137 points in 233 games for a 0.58 ppg average, Eric Staal has had 154 points in 239 games for a 0.64 ppg average, Jordan Staal has had 112 points in 210 games for a 0.53 ppg average. Filpulla is between the two of them in ppg over that span and cheaper than both, he could be a good 3C for you who could be a 2C easily if needed. There could be a trade between both but this isn't it.

Only problem is that Valtteri Filppula costs 5mil for this season and next season, that's a lot of salary for a player that is in decline. Tampa Bay has Vladislav Namestnikov as the 3rd line centre if Filppula can't pull his weight this season. If Filppula plays in more then 65 games for Tampa Bay this season I'd be surprised.
Filppula can play Centre or Left Wing and is a veteran in Tampa Bay's locker room, and I always thought Filppula was a decent player so I'd like to see Filppula atleast get a 4th line spot on the LW or Centre.

Filpulla isn't in decline though, his production dropped but the entire roster had an offensive slump last season. He's not going to score 25 goals or close to 60 points again but will hit 40 and be a good two way center. His physical skills haven't diminished just his role has of being asked to provide key offense, he's now a secondary scorer. His contract for this season is fine it's next season that hurts but we can figure that out as we go, we don't have to dump him now and attach assets to do it.

Filpulla won't be on the 4th line, he's a top 9 player, we'll find a spot for him there. Namestnikov will be the one still searching for a permanent role unfortunately. With Callahan hurt to start the year they'll play together on the 3rd line and Namestnikov hopefully learns how to take a draw and some defensive responsibility from Filppula. We can keep Filpulla because he was a key piece in our past two runs even if he isn't bringing the offense some expect from him.

As it stands now, Murphy is the only defenseman that is suitable to be exposed to the expansion draft. If he lights it up, Carolina has a good problem to solve. If he doesn't, they let him go. Taking him away means that they have to find a replacement defenseman to expose.

Hard to understand what problem this trade is attempting to solve. Cap dump of Filppula, sure, but why all the extras...especially a seeming like-for-like swap of 3rd round forward picks from 2015?

I don't think it's lopsided, but still. Carolina has less than zero interest in trading Saarela.
