Who is the biggest "Star" of this team? Sweden will play vs Slovakia in first game, so im a little bit interested.

I think this is a strong team, with emphasis on team. No superstar perhaps, but plenty who can make it happen. You gotta add in Lööke in the mentions too as a WJC player this year.

The top 6 forwards (Dahlen, Lööke, Grundström, Eriksson Ek, Ahl, Asplund) looks really good. Maybe the team do not have the big star like Nylander last year and the best 97 are late 97. After the top 6 it is a bit of drop off, solid but not great.

D-men are very skillful, but I do maybe miss another big d-men. Wonder if not Leandersson should have been consider instead of Leman.

I would guess bronz.

Is it odd they only have one '98 on the team?

I was surprise that there are anyone at all, since they are very age fixated. Also, even if I like Lindström, he is not the best swedish 98, I would much rather have seen Pettersson. Could have been great too have on PP.

Thanks.

Why is that the case - i.e. why is Sweden so regimented? Is it an internal thing re Sweden's governing body? It can't be simply lack of depth b/c Sweden has a very strong jr program, no?

Where can one watch the event? livearena do not broadcasted it, that much I know.

Thanks.

Lack of deph would have the opposite effect, and force them to use younger players like in the 95 generation.

It is probably more about stability, do not rush, give everyone a chance to play and so on. See this in most sports.

TSN will broadcast the medal games as usual. Let's just hope the rest of the games will be streamed, some years they haven't been.

Thanks.

They always keep players to their age group in the 4 nation tournaments, so the underagers that makes the U18 or U20 teams in the championships have (almost) never played on those teams before. Thus underagers will be rare unless one age group is really weak(like the -95 one that always used plenty of -96).

I wasn't sure where to ask this - here or on the Sweden hockey board - but didn't want to seem rude showing up on the Sweden board so figured I'd just dump my questions ITT.

I was wondering a few things.

I know IIHF U18 is the important U18 tournament for Sweden (i.e. not Hlinka) and read that this was the worst showing in about a decade for the team. Is it any sort of big deal that the team played bad - or is it just seen as one of those things?

Was the make up of the team seen as good? I was surprised everyone was '97 - but someone upthread pointed out correctly this was a sign of good depth (i think my bias was Canada will put over achieving younger players on the team).

Admittedly I'm only going by stats (i've seen some clips, but not much) - but was it a surprise how unproductive Jens Looke was? (or am i focussing too much on stats)?

All have got new contracts, so I guess not a big deal. Media do not care about U18.

I only saw 2 games, USA and Canada, in the game against USA. USA was dominating big time. But against Canada I do think to be honest think we was the better team, we won the shoot with 38-34 even though canada had more PP minuts. But you can not go far with goalies that have around 80-88%, it is simple as that. The goalies never gave us a fair chance to win the game. They goalies did not have one single game above 90% execpt against germany, and that simple do not work. With a more normal save%, it would have looked very differently.

I didnt saw the game, but I follow the stats in the game against Russia we lead the shoots with 36-15 and had the lead with 3-1, and going by that we had the game in our hands. When we got a SH goal against us and the team fell apart. Things like that can happen in juniors, but should not be a big concern when you evalute the players.

There a lot of good players coming from 97, maybe not as many as from 96, but much more then from 95.

Pettersson and Nylander could maybe a have made the team as 98 based on their preformance in superelit. But it was not that type of player we where missing I think, I think 1-2 big d-men would have been more useful. But do not really know who that should have been, maybe Leandersson. That is the only one I can think of.
