We all know no other country has the depth that Canada possesses. But what if we combined Russia and Sweden into one team and had them play against Canada's best, do you think they'd be equal? If not, who'd win the most games out of 10?

Team Sweden/Russia:

Panarin - Malkin - Kucherov
Ovechkin - Bäckström - Lindholm
Pettersson - Kuznetsov - Landeskog
Forsberg - Zibanejad - Radulov

Hedman - Karlsson
OEL - Klingberg
Lindholm - Dahlin

Lundqvist

Team Canada:

Marchand - McDavid - Marner
Giroux - Crosby - Bergeron
Monahan - MacKinnon - Point
Tavares - Stamkos - Scheifele

Pietrangelo - Doughty
Vlasic - Burns
Keith - Subban

Luongo

Keith and Vlasic are done with the national team. Plenty of better options on LD. Also Monahan and Point are going to have to outduel guys like O'Reilly, Hall and Seguin.

you really put Luongo in net over Price/Holtby ? Lol

Keith and Luongo on Canada must be some sort of joke right?

Canada's goalies are pretty established right now, its Price, Holtby and Fleury.

As for defence Rielly, Chabot, Giordano, Letang, even Barrie are ahead of Keith/Vlasic who are done at the top level.

That being said, sure that Sweden/Russia hybrid team could beat Canada in a 1 and done game, in a 7 game series or even 3 game series I have Canada quite confidently.

Of course a Sweden/Russia hybrid could beat Canada in a one off game. Both of those nations can beat Canada alone. What makes you think that Canada would comfortably win in a 7 game series though?

Sweden & Russia, really, what's next? ;-)

The legacy of Charles XII & Peter The Great vs Canada?
Two Bigger than Life Enemies: Charles XII and Peter the Great

"Peter won the war because Charles decided to enter Russia. Voltaire claimed there was talk of the two of them commanding an army together, though others doubt this."

It would be an easy win vs Canada, no match. :sarcasm:

Where the hell is Tarasenko?! I would take Tarasenko over Lindholm, Landeskog and Forsberg. For defence Provorov over OEL or perhaps Dahlin (if we are talking about right now)

OP is clearly a Sweden fan and overvalues Swedish players.

If there was actually a Sweden/Russia hybrid it would be a much more even split than being 3/4 Swedish like the OP has.

No Russian defenseman is making this made up team. Might as well not bother making up this hybrid team if you're going to force one on there.

You could probably find a Russian that is "better" at every position (except D) but then goes the SWE/RUS team idea.

Artemi Panarin - Jevgenij Malkin - Nikita Kucherov
Alexander Ovechkin - Yevgeni Kuznetsov - Elias Pettersson
Filip Forsberg - Nicklas Bäckström - Viktor Arvidsson
Gabriel Landeskog - Mika Zibanejad - Vladimir Tarasenko

Andrei Vasilevsky
Henrik Lundqvist
Sergei Bobrovski

A storied history of being head and shoulders above everyone else when it comes to best vs best competition.

I hate to sound like a broken record as I've mentioned this many times but there have been 14 best vs best tournaments ever played dating back to the 1970's, Canada has won a staggering 10 of them.

1972 Summit Series
1976 Canada Cup
1984 Canada Cup
1987 Canada Cup
1991 Canada Cup
2002 OG
2004 WCOH
2010 OG
2014 OG
2016 WCOH

In between those we had 1981 USSR Canada Cup champions, 1996 USA WCOH Champions, 1998 Czech OG, 2006 Sweden OG.

Throughout history Canada has shown it will win more times than not when our best are on the ice, this is what gives me such great confidence in Canada if tested in a 7 game series by any team on this planet.

I’d probably have vasilevski as the Russia/Sweden starter - he’s arguably the best goalie in the league rn

Pretty much this. If you are putting your money anywhere do you bet against Canada? I don't, not in a best on best tourney. We are in a situation where if there was a team picked today the likes of Giroux and Seguin may not make it. Benn maybe doesn't either even though he's having an off year. That's a lot of mustard right there.

But the question was if you combined Russia and Sweden into one team, today. So historical wins do not matter since Swe/Rus has never competed together.

Wouldn't it be better to keep Bäckström and Ovi together in one line though, since they've been playing together in Washington for a long time? Otherwise your lines look good to me.

I still factored that in and pick Canada here. You can make a good argument a Canada vs. the World series could go in Canada's favour.

If you compare the roster man-for-man, Sweden/Russia would likely crush Canada. Of course, such a matchup would never occur.

No they wouldnt. Itd be dead even in a one off game and pretty even in a series.

2 best players in the world right now are McDavid and MacKinnon.....the later has been the best player in the playoffs so far

how about North America vs. the world

kane McDavid schifele
eichel McKinnon marner
Marchand Crosby Bergeron
Mathews Tavares Goudreau

doughty Jones
burns pk
Reilly buff
chabot

price
flurry
bishop
