I love being Swedish and following the World Championship. If we win, rejoice! If we lose, meh it doesn't matter. The stakes are low and the upside huge.

With that said, I get annoyed by the North Americans who questions the merits of celebrating a tournament that's not even best-on-best. Give me a break. Nobody claims that this is the best teams these countries can field, but that's besides the point. For the Europeans among us who don't stay up until 6AM to watch Stanley Cup hockey this is the best hockey we see all year, and victories are worthy of celebration.

Dunno that anybody questions the merits. More in awe than anything

Political leaders, especially divisive ones should know better and stay away at times like this, and certainly not push himself forward with any show-stealing youthful high five nonsense. They should all have taken a page from Salmela playbook and hug him instead. That'll teach him. (I love the Putin appearances in the Russian ones though, and Obama inviting the Cup-winning Blackhawks to the White House, so there's obviously considerations in the rule)

It should be the players' celebration, and of them, and in their terms to an extent. I still think maybe the best part in our 2011 one was that someone in organization was planning on bringing Paradise Oscar to perform his Eurovision song and the team was like "how 'bout no" and then got Vesa-Matti Loiri instead.

The US president invites all the major league sport champions to the White House. Not just their home cities.
